The Last Day

So as I sit here, preparing to go to sleep and put to bed another day, I have to acknowledge that tomorrow is the end of an era. Mayle closes. I wish it wasn't so--I regret the items I missed and the ones we'll never see. But I will be there by 6 to say farewell to Elise and Christina and maybe Sumer (if she's there). I'll stay in touch with the girls, but I wish they still had jobs in this crazy economy and that things could stay as they were, if only for another year or so. Other changes I would like (motherhood, that new job), but Mayle was a part of life, like Evan and the cats, that I wanted to stay just the way it is.

At least there will be a group of us girls there to see the store out in some form of style. See you there. I'll be there around 5 or 5.30, depending on how the grading goes.

I am so envious that you'll be there for the last day. Even though I don't have much Mayle, I'm really going to miss the shop, it was my absolutely favorite place to go whenever we were in the city.

Good luck with grading, I'm busy cleaning up my adviser's list of illustrations and credit lines. Phew.

I wish you could be here too, just to see the shop for the last time and to get a break from your routine.

As it turned out, I never even started the grading. I looked at my syllabi and discovered I had to write a new lecture for tomorrow--something I hadn't banked on. So, grading will not be finished but I will go into Mayle.

Good luck with your work for your advisor. I can't believe you are back up and running with school on what is supposed to be your maternity leave.

I will, Melissa. I know what you mean about the teaching schedule. I am hoping mine doesn't interfere with the sample sale. I'm heading in soon. It will be odd to say goodbye. It hasn't really sunk in.

Moya, I hope it wasnt too emotional. I spoke with elise earlier (and I bought teh all black michaela!!)

It was actually really nice--I don't think it sunk in for any of us yet (probably won't until the sample sale). The all-black Michaela is lovely, Marti. They will be getting more dresses in next week--you can buy them by emailing Christina. I guess the store is shut but they will still sell the re-editions via email, twitter etc. Some new fabrics are evidently coming in that haven't been used before.

Also the big mod patterns for Vanya and the peach holiday were never used in any collections (the black holiday was used on Otto).

Marti--you were there in spirit and mentioned as we toasted to Jane, the shop, the fans, etc. in champagne (bought in by Cindy) and ate cupcakes.

Cindy, LivKate and I were the last to leave. I took lots of photos, including the closed sign on the door and will post them all on flickr and some here. It was a great time, only made sad in retrospect as it was the end. I can't believe it has closed.

Moya- Thank you for the update about the re-editions. I lost all hope today of never owning a piece from the final collection. I can not wait to see your photos!

Moya,
It was great to see you again today.
Eventhough I couldn't stay longer - had to leave for dinner - I got there pretty early today and stayed longer than 2 hour. :)

It was really nice to see all these people stopping by to say good bye to girls , and to the shop. It was sad but everyone was having good time enjoying cookies, cupcakes and champagnes.

LivKate, Cindy, Moya, you guys looked lovely in your Mayle outfit.

Cannot believe it will be closed now..
Moya! can't wait for your photos.

I've been watching that dress--Erica. I really want it--it's from last summer and I nearly got it in July. I only didn't because I'd spent a lot and thought there will always be more Mayle... And then they announced they were closing a week later and I found out they'd boxed summer up!

possible sample sale item, perhaps? i wonder if the auction will go for less than $200...it would be a nice maternity option, maybe? thinking positive thoughts for you.

Such a sad day... Does anyone know the exact dates of the sample sale? The girls said the end of April, but I wasn't sure if they had nailed down the dates.

Moya said...

I don't believe there is a fixed date right now, Elena. They had it originally scheduled for earlier in the month, but what with re-editions not coming in on schedule and being sold via email, they have pushed it back to the end of the month. I think we just have to wait, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was the last Thurs-Fri in April.

Thanks Moya! I'm out of town that last weekend in April, so I'm crossing my fingers I don't miss it.

oh, this is great news! i had thought it was scheduled for earlier in april. maybe leon and i will be able to make it, after all!

It was and they had to change it.
