Avignon is in

I went by Mayle again today. Both lengths of Avignon are in, but it runs really small in the waist and didn't fit me. I think there were just 2 8s and both sold. I would have needed a 10. Avignon isn't for me anyway, but there was one in the iris dot fabric I love. I have to admit to momentary disappointment--new Mayle and again, I can't fit into it (it doesn't make anyone feel good when they can't fit into anything in a store). I had to remind myself that much of this related to my height, the size of my bones and not my weight. I am hopeful for future offerings though. But it doesn't appear that there will be any deliveries this weekend. Hopefully next week will be my week. I'm hoping for a macap print, and iris dot and a Sylvestre dress in cotton.

The Avignons are mainly 2-4 and are in iris dot (my favorite), Amalfi flowers--the original and a lighter washed silk version that I didn't like as much, the red Asian inspired print, black, ivory paradiso and fleur du bois/honeycomb floral--the holiday 07 print. Most of the size 6 run was in the longer cut and only came in the black and washed Amalfi flowers.

On a more positive note, it was fun to see people in the store again today. Julie, LivKate, Maryam and Kim were all there, all looking great. It's been so much fun meeting people--everybody has been so great. I feel very lucky to have met you all.

I feel I look like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards these last few days--all my best winter Mayle is being cleaned so I fudged my outfits. Not to mention my hair and skin seem to be at their very worst. Nothing like feeling ugly when you are trying to buy new clothes--and nothing fits!

Moya don't be so hard on yourself! You looked adorable at the store. Hopefully next weeks delivery brings you something special that you love.

moya -- you are being hard on yourself! and perhaps it's a blessing in disguise that you haven't been able to fit into anything. i agree with you, and from the pics i've seen it doesn't sound like jane has recut her best pieces. this means that you don't have to kick yourself for buying something mediocre (and spensy) in this frenzy later! and, hopefully, will find something perfect and prized in the next two weeks. that's what i'm hoping.. but it's so difficult when you live outside of NYC :( keep the mayle faith!

Thanks, MA. I just felt a mess today--you looked beautiful, so glowing.

I agree, Melissa. It may be a blessing in disguise--I think it's as much the disappointment that nothing I want has (so far) made it to the store as it is the disappointment that nothing fits. I wish I could go back to the legendary 2007 sample sale and pick up some of the items I passed on back then. Or even back to the sales of Summer 06, Summer o7 and Fall/Winter 07. I think it's the promise of old favorites returning that has us all so excited. But, of course, for most of us, our old favorites will never return.

I know it is even more difficult when you live outside the city. Are you coming in for the sample sale?

Melissa - where do you live (if you don't mind my asking)?

I live in CT and it's pretty difficult for me to leave my job to make a quick trip in. I was hoping that I could find something good tomorrow, but it sounds like there may not even be much in my size. Thank you for the continual updates.

Moya - I'm certain that you looked absolutely lovely today. I do understand those days where you just feel like a mess sometimes. It sounds like you're probably going to stay away this weekend, but I would love to try to meet with you sometime in the next couple of weeks.

I'd love to meet up, Leanne. I'm planning on going in next week. I may go in Tuesday but I have to have this horrid dye test that really hurts--fertility stuff--so I may not be physically up to anything for the rest of the day. I may go in Thursday.

Thanks Moya for your reponse the other day re the sample sale. I would love to be able to make it in town for the sale, but I'm really hoping to pick up some pieces from sping and fall 07, so my chance is probably slim, anyway. I have been on the fence about that aztec lace Petulia since I have missed out on the original one. It's probably been sold by now, and I'm really hoping Mayle would cut it in a more colorful fabric...

BTW, if anyone is considering parting with any 2007 pieces especially in smaller sizes, I am all ears!

Hi Moya! I am so sorry that you didnt find anything! I spoke with Doris this AM and got the original Avignon in the fruit du boise/honeycomb print + the hannea cami in the lotus print. Don't feel bad about the dress not fitting well, its a weird cut - I had to have it because it was literally my favorite dress back in 2003.

I am sure that something special will come in and scream your name!!

Avalanch- if you are a 2 I would snap up teh aztec petulia. I just recieved mine and its absolutely lovely!!!

Moya - I am thinking good thoughts for you. I hope your tests go well and that you'll find the lim-ed piece you've been waiting for in the shop. I am sure you are feeling anxious with all of the waiting and uncertainty... don't let it get the best of you!

Moya and Joyce,

What a total pleasure to meet both of you today. It is really nice to meet smart women who appreciate fashion. I really enjoyed speaking to both of you and I am so happy that the Avignon worked out for you, Joyce -- it was just meant to be. Moya -- enough of the negative talk, you looked great -- that AMAZING skirt, those shoes and Lyell sweater! I loved the way you wore it together with the striped shirt. I can't believe that I passed that skirt over...

I agree with the mixed blessing comment, my wallet has been breathing a sigh of relief -- so far I have been a bit disappointed in the offerings and have been waiting for the "dress" -- I regret passing on the Ada that was on ebay because I was holding off for the re-editions. I work in a very corporate environment so there are limitations as to what I can wear in the office -- that is why I keep rejecting the Petulia.

Moya, I wish you the very best and am crossing my fingers for you.

Also, it is driving me crazy -- what is the name of the actress we were chatting up today? -- she bought the red Avignon.

Moya-
It was nice meeting you today at Mayle.
I am the girl with white Mayle coat from couple years ago with faux-fur trim. :)
I didn't even realize it was you until you mentioned your blg.
Anyways, it was fun seeing all of devote Mayle fans from everywhere.
I will definetly be there again next week - although I feel like I am harassing Elyse/Christina..:)
BTW, when did they say the sample sale was? Elyse told me but I forgot what she said.

Marti, The size 2 would fit me, but I have recently just bought the Jemeen and would like to have more color diversity, although I do tend to wear a lot of black and white. Ah well, I will sleep on it.

Please do post a photo if you can, I bet it is lovely on you!

Thank you, everybody, for being so nice. I did feel a mess yesterday, and appreciate your comments. I am hard on myself in general, which may be a function of the career I'm in, one with lots of criticism at all levels.

Avalanche--I have a feeling the only older stock will be pants, shorts and maybe skirts. There were tons of these left over in the legendary sale of 2007 (where I skipped over evening gowns I loved for $75 thinking I'd just have to have them shortened), and the reports from the sale I missed (April 08) said nobody was paying attention to pants, so who knows. I know that we're all really interested in dresses, coats, tops (which were in short supply even in the June 07 sale), knits and jackets.

I think there are supposed to be some recut items at the sale, but these will likely be recent pieces. I don't know when it is, probably April.

Cindy--thanks for the good thoughts. It means a lot. I didn't sleep well on Thursday night as the fertility issues were on my mind.

Chelsea--it was good to meet you. I love your coat and that was one that I regret not picking up in Fall 06. It looked beautiful on you.

LivKate--it was great to meet you, and to see Kim, Maryam and Julie again. I think we all need to plan a get-together, especially for the sample sale. I hope I get to meeet Leanne, Loretta and Melissa soon.

Everybody I've met from this blog has been so great. The actress (who was lovely) was Sarah Paulson. I really like her work--she was fabulous in the Bettie Page movie and she was so nice and down-to-earth. My friend Jane was really jealous that I met her.

Marti said...

Moya i love your ebay find. I always loved that sweater! Sarah Paulson used to buy all my old Mayle on ebay! Doris has always said that she is very sweet.

Moya said...

She is really nice, Marti. She's just a normal, pretty girl.

I do so hope my sweater fits. I loved it so much from the start, but never picked one up. If I'd known Mayle was closing in April 2009, I'd have gotten a lot more stuff from past collections.

Does anyone have pictures of the iris dot fabric or at least a good description of it? What season is it from?

Thanks

Moya said...

Marie--the iris dot is the purple fabric used for the blouse in Fall 07 and trimming that season's Mariya and Margarita dresses. It looks plain but has a slight woven dot pattern in the silk. I hope this helps.
