Sorry about the paucity of posts this week. I've been swamped at work--I gave a talk on celebrity on Wednesday (sandwiched between two classes) and my students have tests coming up which has made for busy office hours. I've also come down with some kind of sore throat/aches and pains bug--it's not a cold (yet) and I know it isn't flu which is far more disabling than whatever I have. That said, I am sure this is what my students have that they call the flu.
I'm currently awaiting several packages: my Florinda jacket from ebay (so hope it fits), Jemeen from Studio Sebastian (I hope we have some warm weather by the time it arrives) and two cashmere sweaters from Inhabit's sale. Evan will finally think I've lost it when the packages arrive, but almost all were really cheap. Florinda was the sole exception and even that was over 50% off. In rehearsing my justifications here, I know I protest too much.
I've even been too busy to make it to Mayle (and still found myself falling behind with work and must-do health insurance issues). I doubt much of what has come in will fit me. I'm not sure I like Analina--the menswear styling isn't my thing. I nearly bought the original Michaela but the fit was odd--too big everywhere except the back and the area under the arms which was a little tight (the problem I have with some Mayle--I think she cuts too small in armholes and the back and I can't use all the extra fabric in the front to change the fit). I wasn't sure I liked the way the original looked on me and that makes me unsure about the re-edition, even though I know some fitting issues have been altered. In all likelihood, I'll save for the sample sale, but if some fabulous cotton dress--or well made, non leopard print clogs--come in, I'll be down for them.

Good morning, Moya! I hope you feel better soon - you should try to get plenty of rest. The flu season had an late peak just like last year - I had the flu 3 weeks ago and all of my co-workers have had the exact same sickness.
I just saw the pictures of Analina and Michaela and was piqued until I received my package from Studio Sebastian - WOWWOWWOW. Aurelie is so luxurious - I never got to try it on in the store because it sold out so quickly, but it was on my wish list. The harness, those buttons, the sleeves, the surprisingly charming fit - so amazing. Helen is also incredible! I might have to do a shoulder alteration because of my shorter torso. I am so very pleased by my new purchases. I hope you are just as pleased with your Jemeen!
I went to Jumelle last night to check out spring Mociun and Rachel Comey goods. I am so glad I did, they are such a breath of fresh air. I think I'm going to forgo re-editions now and plan for spring and summer. The prints are so artful, I cannot resist... I almost plunked down for full price Mociun until I realized that Mayle has totally skewed my idea of justifiable costs. I need to get back to reality.
H Moya, I hope that you feel better! I feel like flu is suddenly now going around everywhere!! Just think only a few more days until you never need to think pop up shop again! Drink some herbal tea and try to rest. I know its hard with teaching, but dont burn yourself at both ends!
Moya and Mayle ladies,
It feels as though I haven't posted a comment in forever, as grad school and travel have kept me busy. However, I did want to quickly post that I went to the SA outlet on the UWS this afternoon and very unexpected found some Mayle from last season in the racks. Moya, you are certainly right that the outlet is a gem; who knew they'd have Mayle on discount at this point? I managed to get a Melia for around $240 (I got the 6 and I know there is one 4 left). There are also Pia tops ($69) in cream and Penelope dresses in black ($109). The salesgirl said that they had several sizes in the Pia and Penelope in back and probably wouldn't be getting any more Mayle up in the outlet. Just thought I'd pass the info along. Hope all is well (and feel better, Moya!)
karen
Thank you, Cindy, Marti and Karen. I'm feeling a bit better but still not right. I think I just burned out this week.
Cindy--I am so pleased you like Aurelie and Helen. Aurelie was one of my favorite Fall pieces--I got it in November and loved it. I'm still waiting for Jemeen and hope I get it tomorrow so I can wear it before it gets cold again!
Thanks for the SA tips, Karen. I paid $109 for my Penilope and it was such a great deal. I have to go to the outlet again to see what SA items they have. As Cindy points out, Mayle has skewed my idea of what is reasonable--it's like a $200-300 purchase is nothing.
That said, I also have to save for the Mayle sampe sale--or at least, stop shopping at this rate.
moya- no sorry needed...i find myself responding on everyone else's blogs and not being diligent about my on.. for shame.. and you know what? the mayle madness should die down but i think this weekend might be hectic in the shop as refinery 29 has just made a point of letting everyone know that mayle is on it's last legs...arghh oh well...please make sure you are number one now...be kind to your health...
I caved. I bought Michaela in the Rio Plata. It is so, so beautiful. I bumped into LivKate and she had scored the GG Michaela (so perfect for her!). LK, there was a lady who was incredibly envious of your GG Michaela. I'll tell you the next time I see you! Moya, try the Michaela, it's really beautiful. I also tried on Analina, and although I get excited by menswear and as Elise says, it's totally my style, I couldn't quite get behind it because Michaela was too pretty to resist (thank you, Elise!).
Do you all want to get together on Tuesday? Just to say farewell? I'm not free till 6, but I'll bring champagne. I would love to give the shop a proper goodbye.
moya - take care of yourself and take it easy this weekend! (though you should go to mayle and try on the michaela ;)) spring is lurking around the corner, and we can all bust out our unworn mayle frocks!
i wish i could get together with you guys at the store closing next week. that sounds like it would be really nice, but unfortunately i live too far away to make the trip.
it would be nice to meet christina since she's been so helpful to me over the phone esp. when i was out of the country last week! i wonder how much of a pain we've all been to them ;)
with christina's help (and marti's advice), i managed to get a michaela in the honeycomb floral. now the wait for my package to see if the 2 will fit.
livkate - if you see this, what size did you get. i think we're the same size.
congrats the rest of you on your michaelas! from the pics, it really looks fabulous!
Let's absolutely meet on Tuesday at 6. It won't be a farewell to each other but to the store.
How many Michaelas were left? Does anybody know if they went up to a size 8? I feel I may be too big for any of the remaining stock.
Also, I think we should get the girls gift(s). I feel so bad for them--all this craziness and they are losing their jobs.
I am in love with my Michaela. I was feeling lousy yesterday and I dropped by Mayle after work for a little pick-me-up and had a happy accident with the credit card. I'm going to wear Michaela on Tuesday!
Moya, the only place where Michaela is fitted is in the waist. I got a 6, which is my usual size. You might be able to do a 6 because the shoulders are open (deep v front and back). The dress runs true to size but the shoulders/bust are open, as is the skirt.
On another note, don't the girls work on commission? Maybe the best way to support them is to buy a frock before the sample sale...
If you want to get Elise a present, buy her some Kiehl's. I got some for her & doris at Christmas and I also sentthem gift sets on Doris last week. Elise loves stuff like that.
I am sure that Sumer would also love any little thing.
Cindy, Thts great that you got the Rio Plata in a 6. Elise was holding it for me, but I passed b/c I have that print in another dress and I just bought the Paradiso. I sort of regret not getting it - as the inferno bird never came in a 6 and I am now regretting not getting two michaela's.
I am sad/jealous that I can't stop by to bid adiue to the girls on Tuesday. I still can't believe that Mayle is closing!
Marti--thanks for the tip. you called when I was in the store and I asked Elise to say hi from me. It was quiet today--I tried on Michaela and it was a little big on me!
I just got the Monica from ebay. Does anybody remember how it fit? I remember trying on the top version and it was tight in the sleeves. Obviously not an issue with a sleeveless dress!
moya - did you not like the michaela on? which print did you try?
I tried on the Honeycomb floral (which was my favorite) and the black oriental jacquard. I liked it on but I had just got Jemeen and I won the ebay Monica, so I decided to pass. It was a tough call. I liked the Honeycomb more (it was a little longer and a different fit)--you will love it Melissa. I just wanted something other than black. I think I would have got it in something else, like Rio Plata or Grey Gardens (both entirely sold out). I think more might be coming in on Monday. I know Elise is expecting a big shipment. Let's see what the next two days bring.
Cindy, I am glad Michaela cheered you up but I am sorry that you were feeling down.
Analina is tiny and some of the buttonholes are small and the buttons fall off. It's not my thing but just as well as the 6 is cut more like a 2-4.
moya - thanks for the encouragement on michaela. i can't wait to get it this week! maybe they'll get more in today and i'm so happy the 6 fits you. i really think it's unfair that you haven't been able to try some of these new pieces... but am thrilled you got madcap silvestre (i did too!)
Melissa, I hope you love your Michaela! I love that floral print. Michaela has such an easy fit and it's an unquestionably pretty dress. I am going to wear it on Tuesday!
