Magheeta Fits!

It's always a bit nerve-wracking to get a parcel from ebay--the combination of excitement and fear that the piece won't fit. I knew Magheeta ran small in the chest (Doris had warned me about that), but I run small there too. I got my Magheeta tonight and fortunately it fits.. I am only a small 34A and even on me, the front part just fits--and this is the large. My friend Nicole is a size 4 but she couldn't even get the front to fasten (this is not a cardigan for anybody with a chest). It's quite heavy, soft, warm and the gold is very gold. It is a beautiful piece and one I am so happy to own. I know it comes up on ebay quite often, but the last two times I lost the auction at the last minute, so it must have been my time.

Moya that's great. Its always "hold my breath" when you buy from ebay!

Moya said...

Thanks, Marti. I know you had a different experience this week and I have items that really don't fit (and while I swear I'll diet into them, I haven't as yet). I really wanted this cardigan too so I'm thrilled. And with there being no more Mayle knits, any sweater I can get makes me happy.

Happy to hear that ebay worked for you. The Magheeta is lovely. Hopefully, we will bump into each other again soon.

HOORAY for EBAY...sorry for being cheesy but that's a good feeling being able to purchase something off ebay and loving it..

Julie said...

You are on a roll :)

Moya said...

I am on a roll, Julie. Too much! I just got the Fedosia jacket using BIN. I don't have any Mayle short jackets and was telling Elise that just the other day, so it seemed fortuitous, if expensive.

LivKate, I do hope we see each other again soon--and Julie, Leanne, Cindy and everybody else. Last week was fun. This week, I'm on a crazy work schedule so likely won't get into Mayle until Friday.

Cindy said...

Moya, I bet the sweater looks lovely on you!

LivKate - I am glad you have an amalfi Cecilia! It's the only Cecilia that I would've purchased aside from the lilac chintz, but couldn't because the shape is too similar to Mitsu. I haven't purchased anymore re-editions because I'm still waiting to fall wholeheartedly in love with a piece, from the look all the way through to the fit like I did with Mitsu.

I would LOVE to see a re-edition jacket. C'mon Jane, just one jacket, pretty please?

Moya said...

I think there is going to be one jacket, Cindy, at least if they get all the stock in. Elise said one jacket should be coming in towards the very end of the re-editions. The factory is running behind on orders so who knows what will come in. But a jacket is planned.

I'm so pleased you got your Amalfi, LivKate! I know how much you wanted one. I'd like to get something in that print too but I have to watch my spending with the sample sale coming up. I have too many dresses in the same shape as Cecilia so I'm hoping Jane will make one other dress in Amalfi in my size.

oh, i'm so happy for you! i have been checking ebay religiously, how does the ignacia fit? i wonder if the 4 would be too small.

there's also a purple top (don't know its name), but a size 2 is probably way too small for me.

i just tried on mirabelle in front of matthew and he said, wait, when did you get that? he thought it was pretty and was smart enough not to ask the price--although it was such a good deal, i wouldn't have felt awful about telling him.

Moya said...

Ignacia fits true to size, maybe a little big. I think the only area that is really size sensitive (given the open back) is the neckline, which is a little high. I am actually about to leave for Boston (Evan's brother-in-law's 50th birthday party), so I can try it on again when I get home. It would have been a good dress for the party, now I think of it, but I am wearing Melia, per Evan's suggestion (I gave him a few to choose from)

Marti said...

Hi Erica,

I have the ignacia in a size 4 and it fits me well- it does tend to "bell out" a bit post hips, but not enough to be annoying. I am embarrased to say I wear it often but have never had it cleaned b/c I am afraid the stones will come off. Gross I know. Its one of my faves.

Moya said...

I love the way it bells out, though. The fabric is great--a weird acetate that you can almost mold into shape. I love it too--it is one of my favorites--and I agree with Marti. Find a good dry cleaner because those stones are too great to lose or have scratched.

Head's up - I just gave Studio Sebastian's in Dallas a call about sale Mayle stock (214-360-9001) and they have the following (sizes and prices are approximate recollections, I had some difficulty keeping up because the SA didn't have style names):

Amalia black cutout dress from summer '08 (size 2/4, $179)
Kita blouse (2, $154)
Aurelie blouse (2, $154)
Helen blouse (2/4, $199)
Theadora (2, $199)
Jemeen in black/white (4/6, $199)
Melia in black (2, $199)
Ziggy in black (2/4, $305)

They also have full price belts across multiple collections and Zenith in a size 4 ($425). Handbags have sold out. Please be nice to them when you ring them up and remember that they don't have style names! The SAs are very helpful and accomodating.

lorochills said...

cindy-thanks so much..too bad there is nothing in my size...

Christina said...

Cindy, did you order the melia? The SA said you'd get it in 3 days! lol If if doesn't work out for you, please let me know since I have been looking for this dress!

fyi-their Helen and Theodora are in persimmon!! Very hard to find the Helen in this color!

Moya said...

Thanks so much, Cindy. I got Jemeen in size 6. I was going to wait for the sample sale for this, but I don't anticipate that dresses will be much below $175 (price last time for the most recent collections). I know this is going to be a crazy month for Mayle spending but then, other than ebay, it will all be over.

Christina said...

I also got Jemeen in a 4 but will probably have to alter it since this style runs large.

Did anyone else order anything from sebastians?

Christina said...

new re-edition photos are up!

Cindy said...

Christina - I didn't get Melia (I scooped up Melia at Barney's during the holiday sales). I hope that whoever did get it after reading these posts is generous enough to let you know if it doesn't fit!

BTW girls, good call on Jemeen. The fit is adorable. It's like wearing a sassy tux! If it's at the sample sale, it'll be in larger sizes.

I ordered Helen and Aurelie from SS(I am a size 6 and got Helen in a 6 and Aurelie in a 4, with the hope that it fits!). I am so excited - I adore these pieces and truly more hyped about them than the re-editions.

Please comment when you get your packages! I love reading your comments about new goodies.

Looking at the pics, and methinks, hrrrmmm. I am going to Mayle after work for closer inspection. I love the Ada dress. I am not very optimistic about my loving the Billies.

LivKate said...

Cindy,
I agree with you. I like the Ada but am unsure about the billies. I do not think animal prints are me. I would get the Ada, but I already have the sylvestre in villa rita and the only other pattern I like is the squares. But I already have a few ivory mayle dresses.

Cindy said...

LivKate - I love the VR Sylvestre! You are a lucky girl, even if you have to get it altered. I have the Fall '07 Ada. The cut is incredibly flattering, but I already know that the fabrics used for Ada (aside from VR) are heavier.

If only the Billies had contrasting frames and straps... I love the idea of suede, but it is so tempermental. I have several suede/nubuck items in my closet, and they are so high-maintenance and reflect every wear - I have never purchased suede pieces full price for that very reason!

Marti said...

I think that there is better stuff to come. Plusthere are 24 Marius jackets, 15 baby billy's and 8 billy douces. Jane went a bit too retro with the ada's but i love the peach platime - not a flattering shade for me but would be great on a blonde

Moya said...

I'm not a fan of animal prints either--and the baby Billies are too small for my needs. Still, I've bought a lot of Mayle recently (which one of us hasn't?). I'll post pictures of Magheeta, Jemeen and Fedosia soon (I have to get the latter two).

I'm not sold on the Ada. I like the gold fabric but think it is to heavy for that design. But I have to see them in person as I know that makes a huge difference. I'm still hoping for a cotton dress.

Marti said...

Chelsea emailed me. She went into the shop - she said that the ada's are best for tall, leggy women with a bigger bust line. Very blousy on top and tight on the bottom. I have a feel that we will possibly be seeing them at the sample sale that jane eventually holds

LivKate said...

Moya,
I hope you enjoy the Fedosia jacket. I have it in charcoal and love it. My only gripe is that the collar is a little stiff and itchy behind the neck. But I love the fit. By the looks of it, everyone seems to be scoring some great mayle.
I truly wish she was re-doing the bb in a rich blue or plum color leather.
I was also wondering whether you were familiar with Lyell's sales. Specifically, does her stuff tend to go on sale very late in the season?

C L said...

Hi girls-
Yes I went to the store today.
and ADA was beaufiful, but not for me.
I really wanted it to work for me but I just didn't have body for that.
As I told Marti it will look nice on someone who has nice bust and long legs, but at the same time, I can see the dress look great on petit woman.
It will make petit woman look very cute and adorable, and tall and leggy woman very sexy.
I just don't have the body for that.
But it is a pretty dress.

and as for leopard print -
like Marti said there are a lot of them so no need to rush,
but I did like them in person.( surprisingly)
I just want to wait and see what is going to come in next 7 days.
I am about to be broke and maybe I can buy one more piece from the re-edition, so I am waiting.

erica said...

thanks for the thoughts on the ignacia, moya and marti. i'm always a bit nervous about ebay auctions that start off artificially low. it could either work to my advantage, or the price could end up out of control. i guess i'll have to bide my time with this one.

Moya said...

Erica--that seller is reputable. They buy dead stock and throw some things in at a really low price. I got my Vita pants from them and they are fine except they are a little small (my fault).

Chelsea and Marti--thanks for your thoughts on Ada. As a flat chested girl, I'll pass too. But it is good to know the fit of these items.

LivKate--I'm glad to hear Fedosia is a good buy. I spent a little more on it perhaps than I should ($349) but it seemed a now or never piece. Anything that old isn't going to appear at the sample sale or in any of the remaining stores with any Mayle left. I don't have a Mayle jacket and wanted one of the ones from that collection. I think Ludovine in black is also a little scratchy around the neck but I can make it work--even if it means tucking my hair back there. Lyell has sales during the end of the season and also sample sales--I will let you know when Emma announces them. I love this spring collection and may splurge on a romper full price (I want to help Emma's business thrive too--we can't lose another great designer, especially one who is such a nice person).

Cindy--congrats on Helen and Aurelie. I have both--I have worn Aurelie a lot (it's so versatile) and am saving Helen until the weather improves. Did you get to Mayle to look at the Adas today?

lorochills said...

i like the ada in the edward tan...but i am not sure i love it so much to buy it now as marti saw we are just days away from the 31st and my saving it up for the one "IT" piece or the clogs which ever grabs me first

Moya said...

I'm wondering if the store will stay open longer given that so many pieces haven't come in yet.

lorochills said...

oh no do u think they would really do that...i was just breathing a sigh of relief that this craziness would all be ending soon...
all i gotta say is GIRLS i guess we need to be prepared for anything hehehehehe

Cindy said...

Moya - I am thrilled about Helen and Aurelie. I was tempted to buy a persimmon Helen full price last year and I sat on it for a week - only to discover that Helen had sold out everywhere in that color!

Christina - Metier has Melia in black on first markdown in sizes 2-6. I think that they will markdown again in 1-2 weeks. They also have the Braque belt on sale (which I am continually amazed by). I think the Braque belt is the best accessory purchase I've ever made (if that means I am accessory-naive, then so be it).

I went to the shop today after work and it was such a marked difference from the usual on the first day of a new shipment (since re-editions, I mean) - no one was there and there were no calls...

The Ada is lovely - the heavier fabrics are appropriate because the cut is radically different. It's not for me, but, I can imagine this dress looking fantastic on leggy women. The dress is a mini and tighter in the hips. It's a sexier version of Ada, which was quite demure.

The leopards - the Marius jacket is well-cut. The suede, however, is a no-nap suede, so it feels rough. I really wish we were talking calf-hair leopard instead. Billies - I am not tempted in the least by the all-suede versions. I am saving my pennies.

Vanya 2.0 - the fit is so much better than the original Vanya! I told Elise that this dress was a welcome surprise for me because the dalmatia version fit awfully, and she told me that the costume-y effect of the original was eliminated by just a few adjustments - Jane shortened the arms to decrease the ruffles, widened the neckline, and took in the bust. The colorways for Vanya aren't ideal for me. Volume + big graphic prints = messy on small people. Only the blossom version was sold out.

I didn't end up getting anything - disappointing, but a relief so far since I have the re-edition I would have wanted most if all of the pieces were available at the same time. I think I'll continue to hold out until something leaps out at me.

Cindy said...

Although it's anyone's guess, I have a feeling that the re-editions pop-up will stay open longer than expected because it's been so successful. Maybe that's why their announcement was cryptic before?

Marti said...

I have a feeling (and I am not in the know on this) that there will be a big Friday + Monday shipment. I also think that even though Jane's lease ends at the end of April she has a lot of work ahead to take the shop apart (she has built rooms + walls) so I think she has to tear this stuff down. Just a thought....

Moya said...

Yes, Elise had said that the rooms have to be broken down--the store itself is a room carved out of the space that will have to be demolished. I just wonder if they'll stay open another week as there is a lot of stock left--and with new items coming in and the ecommerce part of the site permanently disabled, they may need another week to maximize profits. Elise and Christina had originally said the limited re-editions would never be reduced, nor appear in the sample sale. That may be wishful thinking at this point. It will be interesting to see what the next few days bring.

Cindy said...

Good to know... you're right, breaking down a shop, no matter how small it is, takes quite a bit of time.

I hope the re-editions end up at the final sale, it would be a sweet gesture to her loyal fan base in the city. BTW, I think that we're being told that there aren't going to be foreseeable reductions and we haven't been privy to the availability of items because it's a brilliant way to sell. If you can't pick and choose at your leisure and if you're under the impression that there won't be reductions, you're more likely to buy at full price, right?

LivKate said...

Based on what everyone has said, it seems likely that she may carry over into early April but would need to close up pretty quickly. I am guessing that she will want to break down the walls before the sample sale (or at least I hope she will). Hopefully the sale will take place around mid-month. I agree with Moya, I think some of the re-editions will be marked down, i.e., the pants and skirts.

Elena said...

Christina, could you tell me where the re-edition photos are? On a flickr account? All of your comments are so helpful!

mel said...

cindy - did anyone at the store mention if more vanyas are coming in?

also, i agree with those of you that are hoping it closes on the 31st as planned. all this calling and twittering is exhausting and distracting me from work....though i will def. miss mayle and the lovely boutique on elizabeth.

Moya said...

I guess I'd like to see the store open for another week or two so that Elise and Christina have a little more time to find work. I feel so bad for both of them losing their jobs in this economy. I've found the last few weeks of the pop up exhausting, frustrating and expensive (not to mention time consuming). I just wish that Jane had decided to stay in business, resign the lease and everything could be as usual.

Christina said...

Also, check out all the photos on flickr. Sign up for a free flickr account so you can take part in discussions and post your own photos. It's fun!

Moya, I too wish she would stay in business even if just to release one complete collection every other year. Unorthodox I know but at least she wouldn't be as stressed with seasonal deadlines, trends, expectations, production, etc. Though she did follow a few trends in the past, her overall aesthetic is timeless so it wouldn't matter if she just designed on her own calendar. I'd like to see Jane take her time to design everything precisely the way she wanted and source the exact materials so 110% of her vision is realized. These re-edition pieces are proof that she is burned out and it's sad how business can diminish one's quality of life. She deserves time off but I hope she considers getting back into the game but completely on her own terms.

mel said...

cindy - can i ask you how the original ada is running and how it compares in sizing to the new one? there's one up on ebay which is tempting... i'm afraid it will be too big on me, but it looks like it could be an easy alteration.

LivKate said...

Moya,
I agree with you. I am drained (in many respects) from the pop-up shop. I hope the 31st will indeed be the last day. I have been so distracted lately.

Marti said...

I agree with you LivKate & Moya. Ia m sick of the pop up shop controlling my time and my wallet. I cant tell you how distracting it is to be out with my son and constantly looking for a new "tweet" and then waiting for my slow phone to connect to the website.

I have a feeling that anything left from the pop up shop will make it to the sample sale. I know that Jane is putting er archives in storage BUT I doubt things like the leopard Marius jacket are going to sell out so what would jane do with them?

Also keep in mind tht in order to do one last great sample sale you need stock. currently jne has spring/summer 08, FW 08 & holiday/resort 08 and not alot of that stock left. She did tell me that she would be cutting things for the sample sale like bags + dresses (so maybe this is where pelle's federica's etc... may pop up). I have a feeling that whats left over will certainly go to the sale - because where else would it go?

Cindy said...

Melissa - I didn't ask about Vanya at the store, which was silly of me. As for the Ada - that is my Ada on ebay! I posted the measurements a few minutes ago. I am mostly a 6 in Mayle and it fits perfectly (I am a 34B with hips); I think that the dress is incredibly flattering. The jersey bust really makes a huge difference compared to the new Ada. I am not sure where you will need the alterations, but I think that altering at the bust/waist should be straightforward.

lorochills said...

cindy-i was pregnant that season and missed out on some great dresses...i love the ada dress..i am towards the end of my weaning period and would love this dress...i fit back into my 6's and with room to spare so i think this dress might work...we will see
