Sylvestre in Madcap

Here, as promised, are a variety of pictures of Sylvestre in madcap. I've loved this fabric for years and am pleased to finally have a dress in it. I also like the Sylvestre dress the most out of all the re-editions I've seen so far. The little button tabs at the side are functional, but the buttons on the top are, sadly, merely decorative. I suspect all buttons on the original Sylvestre worked.

These are not the greatest photos. It looks lovely on and feels so soft and comfortable. The dress flows beautifully. The photos don't do it justice--I look a bit dishevelled and they are generally not as flattering as the reality.

Thank you, Jennifer. The grey gardens is also really beautiful--I was set on Madcap but GG was a very close second. It hangs beautifully and has a lovely crepe texture.

You look wonderful! So, so pretty. I love the Sylvestre dress and the madcap print puts me in the mood for spring. I am regretful that I didn't pick up a Sylvestre on Saturday...

Moya, that's a ridiculously cute dress and you look fabulous in it! Is it sold out? Jane if you're reading this, I want a sylvestre in amalfi print, please!

The sloppy stitching does bothers me though-wish it was cleaner and a bit tighter. I would have attached the buttons with turquoise thread just to make them more special.

Thanks for the nice comments, everybody. I will try to get a better photo to post at some point.

I completely agree, Christina. The finishing on these--and the stitching--isn't what it should be for the price. I even think a different button could have worked--one in a brighter color.

I love this dress, but would have been happier to pay $50 more and had real, Mayle-style finishing.

Moya - It is such a beautiful dress and so lovely on you. This makes me rethink the silvestre ... and I really love the GG print too. Darn that woman who purchased the size 6 right in front of us! I hope that you can wear this soon to celebrate the arrival of spring!

I was curious to check out the new goods, so I stopped by Mayle yesterday. I tried on Cecilia and Josephine - Cecilia is easy to wear and likely flattering on most women (but better for taller women), fits tightly in the bust/shoulders, and is unlined; Josephine is a difficult fit because it's meant for long, lanky women with longer torsos. I didn't try on Amandine because the fabrics she used were brocade-like and much better suited for fall/winter. I was really impressed by some of the fabrics - I loved the inferno bird print in particular; I wished there was another dress with that print (it's the burnout inset for fall '08 pieces like Kaori or Rumiko). As expected, I loved the amalfi pieces - I saw a woman trying on an amalfi Cecilia and it looked fantastic on her.

So I passed (sigh), but I think it's for the best...

Hi Moya,

The dress looks so smart on you! I love it. Madcap is indeed one of the best prints. I am happy that you got it. I adore my Villa Rita Sylvestre (but I still wish I got the madcap) and am looking forward to getting it altered and ready to wear.

Cindy,
I bought the Cecilia in Amalfi and I am in heaven. The dress is so comfortable and flattering and... it is in Amalfi!!! I wore it today even though it was a bit cold out, but I needed to celebrate Spring. Have you picked up anything new? Have you worn your Mitzu?
