My finds

So, here's what I got for myself. I also snagged a few items for friends that I'm not listing here.

New editions:
Josie romper, size 8 in black. I am very happy with this and grateful to Cindy for pointing its location out to me. These were at the front but because they were next to some other black recuts, I'd have not noticed it. There didn't appear to be too many of these and they are lovely--I wanted a Josie last year and I wanted a black jumpsuit this year and now I have the two in one.

Ilaria in pansy lace, size 6. Lovely dress but one that has to be kept away from the cats! The detail on this lace is amazing--it's the lace on the front panel on the Zhazra top. I loved the Sylvania on the postcard but love this even more.

Nieves dress in black, size 6. Sleeveless A-line dress that is in the same black silk as Josie and the Nieves top from SS 08. Marti got this with the red embroidery at the top. It also has pockets!

Resort 08
Jemeen in ivory, size 8. For some reason, the ivory seemed to be smaller than the black and white. I already had this in black and white but for $75 I couldn't resist. Plus it gives me something with a little ivory paisley on it (I love that fabric) and it is such a great easy dress as so many of us have noted.

Nia skort, size 10, black lotus print. Will be great with tights and will also be an incentive to me to get my legs back in shape for summer! I got something in the lotus print too although I had so wanted Zenith which probably went in F and F.

Holiday 08
Lena dress, size 8. OK, it was $200 but this was on my wish list and I know I'll wear it forever.

Zeta top in black, size 6. Love this top. Again it was one of the more expensive at $150, but it was always expensive, like its sister, Lena. It's also amazingly soft.

Otto coat. Thanks to Monica, I scored the only one in size 10 and can wear this for Rebecca's Bat Mitzvah in June. It is a work of art.

(Addendum: this means I likely have a greater percentage of the Holiday 08 items than any other Mayle collection. I now own the above plus Penilope, Thea in putty, Zora in black, Helen in persimmon and the Gaia pants).

Fall 08

Liliane dress, size 6. I feared I wouldn't fit into this but I actually needed the 6. Useful dress but I think it was cheaper in Barneys than at the sale ($175 here). I think this will get a lot of wear over the years. I love box pleated miniskirts.

Olympe coat, size 10. Someone snagged the black version I had intended to buy so I ended up with the ivory. I think I'll get a lot of wear as this is a very warm coat, but it doesn't thrill me the way Odette did, or Raisa and Vera for that matter.

Yves scarf in black. How could I resist for $15? I have the cardigan in the lavendery tan/black from pre-fall so I didn't go for that colorway.

Spring 08

Celia dress in ivory, size 6. Runs really large. I thought this would be too transparent but when I tried it on at home, I loved it. It will be a great summer basic and may even get an airing this week if our crazy sudden summer continues (91 degrees forecast high today and I was wearing my Vera coat earlier this week).

Araceli dress, size 6, in blue. Thanks to Cindy. This was the dress I wanted on ebay earlier this year and lost the auction--even before I bid, it was over the $150 I wanted to pay. I think this only just fits, but it can't be too lose as the front will gape and be really revealing. So I got the Mayle cotton dress I wanted--not Elvira, but I hope that will, one day, find its way to me, along with Izadora, Tana, Haverhill etc.

So, a nice stash of surprises and recent wish list items. I was surprised that some pieces weren't in the sale (like Marion), but that's how it always goes. I am satisfied.

Photos to follow.

Please share your own finds!

Moya- you got GREAT stuff. I didnt see the Yves scarfs on Thursday, but I am jealous that you scored Otto for $195 9I paid $350/$360). It seems like jane had new stuff every day.... also Thessaly told me she talked to you.

Marti said...

oh yeah what size are you in Haverhill?

Moya said...

I think I'm a 10 in Haverhill. I just got off the phone with Thessaly--she's really nice. I think we both did really well. I think they did have new stuff each day.

the nieves dress looks beautiful from what i could see on marti's blog.

i'm so glad you scored a few things you had had your eye on, moya. the otto coat will be perfect, and i loved the zeta top when i tried it on last fall! so many pretty things, i wish i could have been there.

incidentally, there's an Otto for $310 on eluxury in a size 10 if anyone's looking.

I just want to say how grateful I am that we met so early on Friday morning and worked together as a team. Loretta, Monica, Sarah, Moya, and Julie - you are wonderful. And truly, Moya was almost inhuman, fielding calls from all over the world, trying to help friends find pieces from that hellish sale!

I am furious about all of the negative and racist comments that have been unleashed on Racked. I will be the first to say that I was incredibly embarrassed to be first in line for something as trivial as buying dresses and such - but hell, what excuse do I need to give to strangers about something I treasure? Oh right, I get it, we're Japs, shallow women, irresponsible, immature employees or mothers, cutting work or abandoning our children at home because we're fighting to stand in lines for clothes. If we were lining up for Yankees tickets or Wii consoles, would we have been subject to the same sort of comments? When we women do things for pleasure, solely for ourselves, we are judged so harshly. It's total bullshit!

If I hadn't shown up, I wouldn't have gotten the chance to experience the surprisingly real camaraderie among women who have gotten acquainted with each other from comments on this blog. In truth, I learned so much while standing in line on Friday morning, bonding with the girls. That was the highlight of my week - and the sale? It was fine, but about as pleasant as extracting wisdom teeth. I am so very glad it is over!

cindy- i would have to agree with you...sure i like clothes and it was nice to buy some sample mayle...but in all honesty...chilling literally with the girls Monica, Sarah, Moya, Julie and yourself was the HIGHLIGHT of my week hands down

i read the racked comments as girls who were just plain pissed...you know what at least we did not sleep over night like some men do when a new halo game comes out...
but i am trying to be positive about the whole thing...i think i am in mourning or denial now...i am not sure which...i just really can't believe that it is all over

Ladies - I am so sad to have missed the event. I hope that we can gather again sometime - I was so looking froward to seeing all of you, perhaps more than the actual sale itself. Please do share your finds .. and let me know if you have anything that doesn't quite fit :)

mel said...

moya - you got some amazing things!!! i'm esp. envious of your cotton jumper dress. i too lost on that ebay listing. i can't wait to see your pics. and like leanne, i would love to meet you girls sometime. i come to the city fairly often so let me know of the next mayle get-together.. we can also complain about academia ;)

ps the vest was $300. couldn't justify it as it didn't feel distinctively mayle to me.

UM said...

HI Moya, thank you for sharing. I enjoyed living vicariously through you and the other posts. I am sorry I missed it! Uma

Cindy said...

Melissa - I know exactly what you mean about that woolly vest...

I am thrilled about what I got at the sale despite the sad aftermath. I loved so many pieces from Spring, Fall, Resort/Holiday '08, so I think I was lucky. My finds:

Dezra blouse (B&W, shop exclusive)
Jacinthe dress (black, shop exclusive)
Jemeen dress (B&W)
Samira clutch (navy and nude)
Thea dress sample (black with longer sleeves)
Olympe coat (black)
Tama dress sample (no-zipper neckline + detailing)
Hilare dress
Mariposa dress (black, original stock)
Bibi dress sample (cream)
Josefina dress (flamingo/black)
Josie romper (re-edition in black wildcat jacquard w/ curvy brass buttons)

I am sorry that I walked away with so much...

I did pass many pieces to other women at the sale with the thought they would go to good homes. Here are some of the pieces that I let go of:

Astrid (paisley)
Jacinthe (lavendar and paisley versions)
Theadora (persimmon)
Nia (black lotus)
Ziggy (lotus and black)
Zeta
Anna Luisa romper
Araceli dress
Claudie romper
Momo jacket (crushed floral)
Raisa coat
Baby Billie (toro)
Lille blouse
Mariposa top (dot/orange/blue)

I was really stunned by some of the pieces I observed and didn't try on - like the Marion sample with grey wool; adorable v-jumpers from fall '06; a black Odette coat sample; a GORGEOUS Avignon in the Spring '08 taupe stripe (Anahi/Mia) with delicate black lace at the shoulders and tiny black buttons (very WWII sexy).

What I got is more than what I expected - I hope some of you got some beauties as well!

leanne said...

Wow, Cindy - that's quite a haul - congrats! Let's plan a date to meet up in the next couple of months.

LG finally marked down their Mayle stock. It all seems so pricey, especially after the sample sale. They do have one of the original Astrid dresses though.

LivKate said...

So the sample sale was pretty intense as expected. Despite the insanity I had fun because I so enjoyed meeting up with my fellow frockstylers. Also, it was so nice to finally meet Loretta, Sarah and Susie. And as usual, it was so nice seeing Moya, Cindy, Yoon and Julie again. Out of the group, I think I bought the least items:

Jacinthe in lavender (Resort 09)
Nia skort (Resort 09)
Mia (SS 08)
Celia Arrowhead dress (SS 08)
Nieves dress (re-edition)
Marie Laure trousers (FW 08)
Mitchi top - dove (FW 08)
Gia cami - marine (FW08)
black cotton pants - not sure of season
leopard sequin belt (re-edition)

I really wanted a baby billie but they were not there on Friday. Cindy and Moya were so incredible and helped out immensely. I cannot tell you how great they were. Absolute teamwork! ;)

Cindy said...

Monica, I hope you get your billie! Didn't you get a sample Marion? It looked lovely on you! I am glad you got Mia - it's such a great dress.

LivKate said...

Hi Cindy,

I decided against the marion at the last minute- I am not sure why. I forgot, I also got the Ninon via Moya. You are so lucky you got the sample thea - a totally amazing find!

C L said...

LivKate,
Thanks for greeting me with your big smile on friday.
I was very worried about the wait but it was very nice seeing you, Moya, cidy and everyone else.
Sorry I didn't jump in and chat up w you guys - it seemed like everyone was sensitive w the line, w where they stand, I just decided to stay at my spot. :)
My butt was getting cold and it was chilly in the morning but I actually think it was a great experience - meeting and getting to know other Mayle fans.
3 hours of wait went by faster than I thought.
As for what I bought - it seems my purchase doesn't really match w other people!
I think I didn't buy that much, really, mostly because they didn't have my size as Moya pointed out - but I am pretty happy w what I bought!

Cindy said...

Ladies - I have an odd question. I'm rather short, but I like my skirts to be closer to the top of my kneecap. Have you ever let down the hem of any of your Mayle dresses? How did it work out? I am thinking of asking my tailor to let down the hems on a couple of dresses...

Yoon, what did you get? You should wear white more often - you look so fresh!

Cindy said...

Monica - I saw your Ninon, I love it! I hope you enjoy it - it is so snuggly soft and lightweight. I like to layer mine over floral prints. I'm glad you went with the lavendar Jacinthe. It's such a beautiful dress!

The Thea is so great, especially with the longer sleeves. I coveted this dress for a really long time but the black version kept selling out before I got to it. Thanks to Moya, I now have Thea!

Christina said...

Moya, you are so amazing! Thanks for looking out for me at the sale! I can't wait to wear pitsula before it gets too hot here. Sorry to hear about the zazhra top. I think they should have taken off a decent % for that.
My Liliane from Barneys was 149. I too love the box pleated skirts.

Looking forward to your photos as well as from everyone else. Please include the details of Celia and Araceli, if possible.

Christina said...

Does anyone know where I could find a Romy bag?

LivKate said...

Christina,
Try Barneys NY, I saw one in the SOHO Coop a few weeks back. Good Luck, I have one and love it!

mel said...

Cindy and Livkate - you got some great finds!! The sample thea sounds great and Livkate, you'll love the Mia. I have that and it's such an easy, but distinctive dress.

I got a few things at the sale: Olya jacket, ilaria dress in esperanza fabric, and cotton pants too.

I would really love to see pics of some of the re-editions. I will post a pic of my ilaria soon on flickr.

LivKate said...

Melissa,
The Ilaria is great. I can't seem to place the Olya, which one is that? Hope you are doing well!

mel said...

livkate - i hope you're well too and enjoying all your new finds! I do love the ilaria more and more. I was on the fence about it during the sale, and am so happy I decided to get it. I am planning on wearing it w/ a red belt (once i get my waist back!)

the olya is a jacket from fall 08 (?) that is black, cropped with leather trim. it's very cute and it was my best find. the pants i got are the rex pants. but i think they're too big for me (size 6), even though i can't wear them right now ;)

joyce said...

melissa,

how do you feel about the rex pants? are you usually the size you purchased. i just ordered a pair in size 8 from bird. having never bought (or tried on) mayle pants, i'm a bit nervous.

any thoughts anyone?

mel said...

hi joyce,

personally, i'm loving the cropped pant this season (esp. w/ heels!), though i can't wear it myself right now. you can cuff them too, like they are in the lookbook! this pant is just so simple, but they are pleated so they can't be too baggy unless you are stick skinny (which i am not!) i tried on the 4 in the store, and the fit perfectly. but the 6 is what i stumbled upon during the sample sale. i may try and alter them though i would be happy to trade with someone who has a 4. fyi, i am almost always a 4 in mayle pants. i hope the 8 works out for you!

Anonymous said...

joyce - the rex pants are amazing. i have them in both the tan and the black and i wear the black all the time. i can't wait to wear the tan ones in the summer with sandals!

i'm usually a 4 as well in mayle pants, but i have the 6 in the black and a 4 in the tan - these are supposed to be worn not as fitted around the legs, and the 6 is fine.

thanks, guys! i feel a bit less anxious now. i'm so tired of jeans these days; cute cropped pants will be a welcome substitute.

melissa - let me know how you feel about the size 6 pants. i think that is what i need and have been looking ...

lorochills said...

i have the rex pants as well..in both color ways...i am usually a 6 and got these in a 6...i do love them as i need a bit of help in the tummy after logan...it sits higher and i wore it with a stripe pleated gap blouse and it was a fun nautical look heheh...but seriously the rex pants are great

Hi, I love reading what everyone got, ah the Lille blouse, what a find!

Btw, does anyone have a rosamelia? How is the fit? I am usually an 8 in mayle dresses, 34 C, which filters in the sizing (except for the thea cut, tana, petulia, tama all better in a 6). But I understand rosamelia runs big? Would I need a 6? Thanks...

It was so lovely to spend the time with all of you--Cindy, Julie, Loretta, Monica--you made the day for me. Maryam, Susie, Yoon--I wish we could have all lined up together but it was obviously not a time when line-jumping would have been welcomed. Leanne, Marti, Melissa and Kim--I wish we could have all met up, but there will be other times.

I am going to blog about the sale more but it has exhausted me so much. I also think it would be nice if we could post photos of all our finds. Given that there wasn't that much variety in stock, we managed to get quite different items.

Uma, I'm glad you were able to get some items after the sale--I saw your comment on Marti's blog. The Ilaria in pansy lace is so amazing. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I am going to enjoy mine.

Biscuit said...

it was so nice to put faces to names finally! i will try to take some pictures, maybe this weekend? i would love to see the way people style their mayle, too (i love looking at marti's flickr stream).

do you think the store is still taking calls? i guess the lease is up today. i'm sure i could be tempted by some additional things, i was overwhelmed at the sale and passed on some things i wish i had gotten (raisa, sylvana dress, shoji, the nia skort!).

kim, rosamelia runs large, i think you could definitely do a 6.

Moya said...

Susie--the store is gone (we saw them close it down). But there are Shijos and Sylvanias left (both run small), as well as Ilarias. I'd email them at the Mayle info address. Also email me as I may have a number somewhere.

UM said...

Hi Moya, thanks to Marti's recommendation to call the store, I was able to snag some pieces (leopard clogs, ilaria in white cotton, sylvana in pansy net). I was told they were not shipping (by Christina), but they did (thanks Elise!). Thanks to the blogs and posts of all the girls here, those of us out of NY were able to participate! By the way,Metier may get some Michaelas and Nieves (they were supposed to get more items, but they sold out, and I am afraid these might as well). They still have melias, mirabelles and zoias on sale at the store in case anyone is interested.

Moya said...

I'm so pleased for you, Uma. Elise is so wonderful--she always does what she can to help and she is so friendly and kind. I hope she gets a wonderful job soon, after she's had a much needed rest. It's great that you got the clogs, the sylvania and the Ilaria--the pansy lace is so beautiful too.

C L said...

hi UM,
Do you know how much Metier is selling Mirablle or melia?
I was hoping to find them at the sample sale but they were not there... (or already picked up by other people)
and BTW, you'll love Sylvana - I also got sylvana pansy net and it is the best.

UM said...

Hi Chelsea, I just called Metier to ask and they said they would update the blog today with the new prices. They were both over $300last time I checked. Their blog is www.metiersf.blogspot.com I can't wait for my dresses to arrive! I am glad you liked the sylvana. Is it true to size?

C L said...

Thanks UM,
I will check their blog.
I don't know if this is good news or bad news - but Sylvana runs small.
I am normally Mayle size 2 and I got ths one size 4. it looks perfect w one size up.
Ilaria runs true to size, I tried 4 and looks huge on me.
Slyvana is great as it is but I like it with my belt.

UM said...

Hi Chelsea, that's good. I got the sylvana in 6 which is all they had. I am a 2/4 depending on how tight at the bust. ilaria in 4 so should be ok.

Moya said...

Chelsea--they only had one white Melia at the sale (size 6, I think) and a couple of the ivory Mirabelles but they went immediately. I think both were around $200. Van Jean may have both in stock as they seemed to buy deep into Resort. I'd call them or check them on facebook (I don't have a facebook account or I'd check for you). I think they will start to reduce them soon.

Sylvania does run small--bad news for me as I couldn't even get the size 6 or 8 to button up at the top or get them over my hips. Such a lovely dress.
