Brief Mayle Update

I've not been anywhere near the store today but I called in. Christina says they got some more Therese, the Hanae cami, and a few Avignon in this afternoon. Someone bought several Avignon and, right now, the only Avignons they have in stock are one Honeycomb floral in size 4 and a black in size 6.

I'll report back on what I find when I go in tomorrow. I am doubtful, at this point, if I'll get anything. The pieces I want aren't in my sizes or seem to sell almost before they hit the floor--I suppose if you are in when the delivery comes, you luck out. That said, it gives me more money for the inevitable sample sale and for ebay finds.

I called today after I got the message from Christina. Someone came in and bought all four sized 2 Avignon dresses (at $495-$515 each...). They are supposed to get more tomorrow. I am def going to get one of them tomorrow. I hate when tings come in, in pieces but taht's so mayle!

I was in the store today (I swear I'm not a stalker and I am gainfully employed...) at 4 and saw some of the new pieces. The Avignon came in the Holiday '07 floral (not floral honeycomb, but the fruit du bois?), a red chinois, black, and the amalfi(!). The Avignon shipment was odd - they only had a size 2 for all fabrics (all promptly bought by a celebrity), and a couple more sizes for the black and floral. They are getting more Avignon tomorrow.

The Hanae cami (simple thick strap with a buttoned front, on the short side) - arrived in some great fabrics. Includes Vilna's ice blue animal print, ivory paradiso, floral from resort '08.

There is also a new Petulia. It's not my cup of tea - the aztec lace is used for the bib and the body is an neon-ish lacy pink (impressive fabric), and there is a light green detailing at the bottom.

I asked about other styles and I heard that the Clothilde(?) romper (spring '06) and Amandine skirt are likely going to make a comeback!

cindy -thank you..i love her rompers...keep thee updates coming..

I was in today as well and I think Cindy sums it up pretty well. I tried the Avignon in the fruit du bois, but would much prefer to get it in the amalfi.... However, I still hesitate because I think I am compromising and would much rather have the Federica in the amalfi and the coveted Hildie (the one I let get away -- arrrghhh!) I also regret not buying the tank/blouse version of the Federica in amalfi from Spring 06 or was it 07? I agree with you about the new Petulia -- not so great.

I am a little curious about which celebrity bought all the Avignons -- I did see Shiva Rose (Dylan McDermott's wife) at Mayle last Friday during the melee. Mayle still had those ugly print pants -- I really do not understand them. Overall, I have yet to be blown away by any of the re-cuts, but I am happy with my Sylvana in the Suzelly fabric, as I should be because it was SO DARN EXPENSIVE!!!

Cindy and Melissa - thanks for the info regarding Elyse Walker.

LivKate- I heard Jane isnt re-cutting the federica, I would buy the Avignon in that pattern.

I too am dying to know who the celebrity was. Size 2 in Mayle is Parker Posey, Kirsten Dunst or Rachel Bilson (who I do not think would buy all 4)

I think the chinoiserie at $515 or the Amalfi print in the Avignon are the best.

Is someone looking for the Amandine skirt? I bought it in black, but have not worn it ONCE!

I guess I am hoping the federica will eventually make it onto eBay. Can you please describe the chinoiserie pattern? They did have the Avignon in black size 6 the store. I am afraid that I may not wear the Avignon enough to justify it. I am so torn.
Moya,
I look forward to reading your assessment.

Wow. I didn't realize it was a celebrity. Christina said they were all scooped up, which surprises me as I'd prefer variety in styles and fabrics.

Avignon is not on my wish list, but the Claudie romper is. Alas, they'll only be getting them in smaller sizes. I need at least an 8 for the length, something that is a factor in romper when you are 5'10." I love my Anna Luisa romper from last year and really want another one for the summer. It's a shame about the color on Petulia. That's a dress on my want list. I hope they do one in an 8 in a more moderate fabric for me to snap up tomorrow.

Cindy, I sometimes feel like a stalker too! I felt embarrassed when I called Christina today, even though I was at work and couldn't get in. She said there was nothing there in my size (she was the one who mentioned floral honeycomb) so I am hoping that they'll have some great stuff in an 8 tomorrow. I do want Petulia...

Marti, I find the trickling in frustrating too. I just want to know what's coming in so I can apportion my spending and not jump at the first thing.

LivKate, definitely no Federica. I asked on Saturday. I love my orange Federica and wished they'd redo it in Amalfi flowers... I guess I'll never own that, but I can't be greedy.

I'll update you all tomorrow on what I find, likely tomorrow afternoon.

Moya I agree. It super frustrating - I have such limited resources right now and I am dying for the avignon in teh fruit de boise print the clogs and something in the madcap print (which is that beautiful pastel floral from spring 06). I hope Jane cuts something in that. I too feellike a stalker - checking in at 9AM PST every day!!! I am sure Jane will cut more petulia's it seems like a simple enough dress and she is only cutting things she loves. I am so surprised STILL that she cut pants. That was risky.

Moya said...

Marti--is the madcap print the lavender and green floral from that summer? I loved it so much--I especially wanted the A-line dress that never made it into production.

I feel the girls at Mayle must think I'm insane. I'd love a Petulia. Elise says there are good things coming and I should wait. I'm glad we all have each other to go through this together!

Moya said...

I second that it was risky to cut pants--and some of the fabrics are out there, like Eidelweiss (which I have in a dress).

Moya that is the Madcap print. I wanted that dress as well, but Kama bought the sample at the sample sale and then sod it on ebay - i got outbid at the last second too. I was pissed!

I would listen to elise. those girls always are very much right on.

I am hoping i get the avignon tomorrow!

LivKate - I think we were in the shop at the same time today! I was in at 4ish - I was wearing the Pitsula in honeycomb and you were wearing Katia? I think I've bumped into you at the shop at least 3 times! The Avignon - definitely wait for the Amalfi. It's was really lovely on you (if that is indeed you)! I didn't see the fabrics for Avignon, I asked about them and I think the red fabric has some sort of bluish purplish contrast detail, and I think it's from an '05 collection.

As for the celebrity - it slipped out of someone's mouth on accident. I'm not going to say online, but if you ask me in person, I'll divulge.

Sigh. My Ziggy jumpsuit sold on ebay. I am rueful, but as I was discussing with Christina - if I love it because it's Mayle and masterful, but the fit's just okay to semi-not-flattering on me, I should just pass.

On another note, I saw the spring '06 lookbooks for the first time and if she re-cuts any of the dresses with the original Amalfi (with those prints or no) I swear I will buy with a vengeance. They are incredible. Doris was absolutely right - they are so amazing.

Moya - listen to the ladies at Mayle! They are likely more objective than we are because they've seen so much of the collections + seen pieces on a variety of bodies, and ultimately, they have a good idea of what's been wearable and covetable versus too precious to wear since they are raiding the sample closet every day. Decide which girl's got the closest style sense to you and she'll be your best advisor (Doris is awesome!).

Moya said...

Yes, I do trust Elise, Doris and Christina (and Vanessa, back when she worked for them). I listen to them and kow that Elise (who I know the best) has often said wait because she knows there is something coming in that I will love. She does it with a certain look in her eye that cues me in to being patient.

Marti, I've been hoping for something in the madcap print all along--now I know its name! I remember the dress that went up on ebay and always wondered why Jane never made that--it was my favorite in one of her best collections. It wasn't in my size, of course. I also don't understand why she never made the Dolia from F/W 07 either.

Hopefully today will be my day.

Cindy, I am so curious about the celebrity! Congratulations on selling the ziggy--if it was right, you wou;ldn't have considered selling. If it was just the top, I think Jane would have had a huge hit on her hands.

My Spring lookbook is behind my dresser. It was one of my favorite collections ever (along with S/S 07 and F/W 07). I remember showing it to Evan and gushing and he was non-committal, of course!

Cindy,
LOL - that was me, a fellow stalker. I love your Pelle dress -another piece I wish I bought. I am happy to put a face to a name. I do agree with everyone about the awkwardness of constantly calling and visiting the store- BUT, the circumstances surrounding the re-issues are conducive to bringing out these latent tendencies, no? There is no clarity as to what is being made, how many, in what sizes, when they will arrive- so one is left to behave like a scavenger. Quite frankly, at the last sample sale I was very mellow and not aggressive enough and missed out on
a few great pieces. There is definitely a snooze you lose aspect, afterall, that celebrity snappedup all the 2s. I do have a career and these constant jaunts to the store are definitely not helping, especially in this current economic environment.
Moya,
Thanks for the update. I will have to continue admiring federica from afar. So far, in my opinion, she has not re-cut her best designs, but we'll see. I also think it is unfair for many of her customers that there are no sizes above 6, especially since her earlier collections were cut much
smaller.

Moya - I hope you find something you love in the shop today! You should try on some of the 6s, I think you'll be surprised. I normally wear 6-8 in Mayle and I fit into many of the 2s and 4s. The Avignon has a bust ruffle, by the way, that puckers on just about everyone unless you have a long torso. I think you will look amazing in it... But don't buy it unless it is in a print that you adore because I have a feeling that we'll be seeing some incredible things in the coming weeks. There are only 11 styles on the hangers right now, which means we're waiting for about 20 more!

Cindy said...

LivKate - So awesome! It's nice to have (almost) met you! The Katia looked beautiful on you - you've inspired me to pull my Katia out for everyday wear. The best thing about that dress is the hidden belt loops. I think I didn't find them until I tried the dress on for the 10th time or so. I think that's the best part about Mayle, those tiny surprises...

Moya - I forgot to say this in my last post - thanks for the Ziggy support. You're right. If I consider selling/returning after the first try-ons, it's not right for me. I will try to remember that the next time I see someone in it, looking fabulous. BTW, if you see any of the '06 spring dresses that were originally cut in the amalfi (the backless and long versions, what are their names?!), please let me know (I am stalkerish, but sometimes I don't get to the shop quickly enough).

To be honest, I eavesdrop a lot when I'm in the shop and I have hear A LOT of lamenting over the trickling merchandise. There is a decent amount of merchandise in the store, I think, for that very reason - I think some people are holding off on purchases because they're waiting for their one-offs, a piece that they regret not buying or to replace a piece that's been worn to pieces. I think that the last week or so in March is going to be frantic in shop! I feel bad about stalking the shop, but I think the girls know that we all do this because we don't have really have any choice.

That said, I wish I had jury duty today so I could stop by the shop. I feel so skeevy.

Cindy, I am DYING to know who the celebrity is. Since I most likely will not see you in person will you email me? mzimlin@gmail.com

Also I know alot of things have been just selling out. If you really want something you should get it.

That said I am wondering what fabrics jane is coming out with next week.

My husband told me just last night that he is going to have a glass of champagne when Mayle closes so I can finally start saving money & investing in new furniture for our apartment! I think he is sick of every gift he gets me being a gift card to mayle...

lorochills said...

cindy-the long version of the amafli print dress with the cut out bust is the fabiana dress...this is awesome... i have it and since jane is so clever there are pockets as well... i will try and get some more pics up on flickr...yes the madcap was such a great print i managed to get the 3/4 blouse which is also so useful as a lightweight jacket..

Hi ladies, please take some snapshots and post them to the flickr group. There is also a discussion board there but you have to be a member to read/post. It is free to join. I will post as soon as I get my camera fixed. I can't wait to see what everyone picks up from this limited run.

I have to second the point about Avignon's fit. It's cut really narrow in the waist too. Basically, you have to size up.

As a size 8, I have been pretty left out in this collection. That said, the 6 in the lace top fit, but I want a dress more than a top...

I also feel I am neglecting my career for this. I have 30 papers I should have graded last week that I can't even find because I've put Mayle first... They are likely in my in-box. I also have to remember to pay my credit card tomorrow. I daren't even open it because I charged so much Mayle.

LivKate said...

Hi everyone,
I noticed that there is a black Pilar on ebay and was wondering if anyone had some insight as to sizing and fit. Thanks!!!

lorochills said...

okay i wanted the purple vest on ebay...it went for 525 oh my gosh the mayle fervor has only begun...i mean i think this is actually a bit scary but you know what that seller was REALLY LUCKY..right time right place...man oh man...

Moya said...

Pilar runs a little small. I have an ivory in size 2 for sale if anybody is interested. Evan picked the wrong size up at the sample sale. I needed a 10 (I think it was on a hanger for a larger size).

I am stunned about that vest. Doris mentioned today that two of her customers were stalking it. I think the fervor is there but only for certain rarer old items.
