Barneys Redux

Having just checked Barneys online, I saw new reductions. Of course, this preyed on my mind. I have to write today, but while I was printing up my chapter, I couldn't concentrate and decided to call the store. This is not something I'd thought of doing before but it worked. While several items I coveted have sold out in my size (Zora and Melia, even Theodora), the following were available and are on hold for me. I suggest going in and looking--holiday is nearly sold out but is 60% off.

My on-hold stock is:

Eunice pants $159--I may very well get these if they fit as I am so short on pants
Penilope $189--More of a long shot. Online it is listed at $109, which I would pay, but $189 is too much

Olympia dress, $219. I am leaning towards this even though I have a lot of black Mayle dresses. It is hard-to-find, sold out immediately in the store and fit me well.

Jemeen, size 6. Likely not--it is still over $300 and this one I think isn't going anywhere fast.

Miho--which I know now I don't really want or need.

It may end up being a three post day for me. But now with my mind completely clear, I can get in a good 6 hours of work before heading uptown.

i would go with the eunice pants if they fit, and the olympia rather than the penilope.

Is there anything you want me to put on hold for you?

Hi, I came upon your blog after searching for the Mayle sizing info. You seem to have bought a coat I just bought: Ludovine black. I'm out of the country for a few months and can't zip down on a subway to try it on, so I called the store and just bought it over phone. How is the sizing with Ludovine? I am 6 but with C cup, so sometimes I wear 8. I bought size 6, but am afraid that it might be a bit tight and am tempted to switch to 8. The store said that it's true to size, but I just don't know what that means...I don't want a baggy look but what if it's uncomfortable tight. With Mayle, I take in either 6 or 8, so this is not helping... How do you find your size? Is it a tight fit, like the kind where you can't move your arms? If you have any suggestion, I would really appreciate it, thank you, Kim

Hi Kim,

I found it true to size, maybe a little big. I am actually a 34A so I need the fabric in the back. The front fits pretty snuggly on me. It is also a fairly stiff coat so you can't go down a size as easily as in some. I hope this helps!

Thank you so much! That does help, I think I will just stick with 6 in this case since you found yours maybe even a bit big. I am not even sure if I love it but I only just learned that Mayle's closing while I am out of town, which is rather devastating since it's really one great source of happiness in the city. Thanks again. Kim

Moya,
If you see sizes 0-2, please let me know!

I saw Zoia online at barneys the other day for 299 and Penelope for 189 so I'm assuming Zoia has been marked down to 198 as well as the others. I remember seeing Zenith in both colors, Melia and Jemeen on their web site.

I called sebastians in Dallas and fall hasn't even been marked down yet. They have quite a bit of stock, however, they did mark down some of their older pieces. I was told Camilla in size 4 was 149. What would you wear underneath such a blouse with an open back? Nothing? I am contemplating this but I think a 4 may be too loose. They also had Evelia in size 4 but didn't bother to ask for the price. It was marked 199 last time I was in there so it may be 149 as well.

Kim,
How much was Ludovine on sale for? Mayle outerwear is such a good investment. I'm sure you'll love your new coat.

Nice job!
The eunice pants are lovely and you really got a great price!

Also, eluxury.com finally put Fall Mayle on sale. I bought the Eniko in Paradiso for $335. I believe you have it as well from your posts? I have it in black but am looking forward to seeting it in more color. We will see which one wins :)

Anyway, your blog is a lot of fun to read. Thanks for keeping it up.

Hi Kim--I think the 6 will work for you. Odette runs bigger than Ludovine. I preferred the birdseye but got the black as it was the only one in my size but I like it. I have only worn it once as it isn't a heavy coat like Odette. I'm usually an 8 in Mayle coats although some 6s have fitted me, so I'd imagine 6 will fit you. Mayle coats are incredible--I think, dollar for dollar, they are the best investment. I have five of them, and they are all beautiful and durable.

Christina--I loved Camilla, but I didn't get it as I needed the 8 and the 10 was huge on me. Not being able to wear anything underneath could be a problem for some, I agree. I suspect that's why such a beautiful item didn't sell out immediately. Evelia is beautiful and that's a great deal--I loved the dress but it didn't work on my body (too baggy on the top and too short in the body to fit right on my frame). Let us know if you get it. I wish V.O.D. had more larger sizes--let me know if there are any 8-10s.

Hi Julie--I have the Eniko in Paradiso. The colors are incredible. I hope you enjoy wearing it.

look at all the mayle talk i have been missing!

i have camilla and i love it. i wear it both with nothing underneath or with a low-backed tank top. looks fine either way (though the former is obviously much racier!). i am so tempted by evelia, but i think it will be too big. christina, can you remind me how it fit? it sounds like we are about the same size. if that is the case, camilla in a 4 will be too big-- i have a zero in that top and there is still room to spare.

moya, i wish i could meet up to go to mayle together, but it seems like you are going today? work has been completely crazy due to events in the economy. what is your email address?

melissa, if you wear a 2/4 i would get a 2 in the olympe.

Susie--I may go to Mayle today but I haven't decided. When would be good for you?

Moya, I was in vod a few weeks ago and their Mayle stock is 0-4. I went in seeking Mayle but left with a stunning blouse by french designer, Anne Valerie Hash, on sale at a great deal. Sebastians had an array of styles and sizes. I emailed Mayle twice about obtaining a list of stockists but they never reply. I even asked one of the girls at nolita and she couldn't help. Perhaps you could ask the manager about this when you stop by the shop this week.

Susie, I wanted Evelia so badly but the fit wasn't for me. I am short, 5'4" and flat chested so the top portion was huge and too long as I have a short torso. It looked ridiculous on me but I think a girl with a smaller bust could totally pull it off if she was at least 5'6". It's not made for a petite frame but you could easily get it altered by a seamstress. If you loved Camilla, you would probably want this dress. I'm not sure about their return policy but you could call them to inquire.

Hi Christina,

I've asked the girls in Mayle about stockists before and they don't have that information. It is so frustrating--I think we've pieced some of it together but I know there are boutiques out there who stock Mayle and have no internet presence.

I am 5'10" and flat chested and had a similar problem with Evelina--it was huge at the top but the waist and hips were in the wrong place. It is so form-fitting that I imagine it is easy for the dress not to fit. I loved Camilla too but needed a 6-8 and it isn't a top that works if it is too big.

What does Sebastians have in a large size? Do they have an email address? Thank you!
