Afternoon Mayle

I am not doing very well in my resolution to cut back spending. The main reason is Mayle's closure and my inability to resist the beautiful items on sale.

I was stunned when I entered the Elizabeth Street store--there was a lot of fall and holiday stock I hadn't previously seen. Opening Ceremony LA have shipped all their stock to Mayle, including items that had sold out so early in the season I never saw them like Kaiya, Yves in dove, Harumi in Eden and in Black, Amandine skirt, Mariko in rose and Michi in rose (beautiful but not available in my size). There were also some prefall shirts in black or white silk jacquard and little pleated soft cardigans with short puffed sleeves that were evidently pre-fall but had sold out immediately. They also had the Marie Laure and Eunice pants. Both were horrid on me. Eunice in 8 were too small (while the 10 was huge) and made my hips look big; Marie Laure just didn't look good. Rex in size 10 looked hideous on me, so I guess I'm not getting any Mayle pants.

The stock was pretty extensive and while the shop had customers, it wasn't crazy. Most of the customers were really friendly and we bonded over our love for Mayle, the line's imminent closure and commented that Mayle was really the only label we'd buy right, given the credit crunch.

I tried on a few items--Harumi in size 0 which fit. It's supposed to be huge but I liked the slightly tighter fit. By this I mean it is still really loose and would work if I got pregnant. The Eden print is very pretty and the silk very fine. I got the little pre-fall cardigan in a lilac/tan shade with a black border. It is incredibly soft and I love it. Harumi was $224 at 60% off, the cardigan was $170 (originally $420). I also got my Billie Doux in the sable suede for $260.

I tried on the flat knee high boots. They felt like slippers and I love them but they are $585 and that would mean no more Mayle. I put them on hold and think I'll just have to pass, especially as I got these boots (above) from Belle for $180 on my way back to the subway--again, 70% off. I loved the Mayle flat boots but these were a lot cheaper. I do want a pair of flat boots but do I want the Mayle boots because they are Mayle and comfortable or because they are beautiful? I think it is all of the above.

Jane Mayle was in the store when I was there--but she seemed busy and so I didn't speak to her. I tend to subscribe to my friend Sean's theory of "never meet the band." If you like their work and they aren't pleasant, then it sullies everything.

I imagine there could be another round of discounts on holiday/resort. Fall is in short supply and people were buying cardigans, boots, and fall stock. I saw a few people buying resort and virtually nobody buying holiday. Most of the fall bags are gone, including the Jeanne in Loden that I'd hoped to find. All the sandals sold out when I was in the UK.

My wish list remains
Zora in Black (and if not, orange or putty). They recut this so there is a lot in stock.
Hera blouse
Melia
Mirabelle (if I can find it in black)
Asina (if they have it--I think it may be sold out)
Thea in putty or black
Theodora in black
Helen Blouse in persimmon
Zeta blouse
Maybe Astrid

Accessories
The knee high boots
Agnes bag in either color
Any belt

I know I'll only get a fraction of this. It would be nice to have something from both resort and holiday (and I guess I have one holiday item). Resort may end up being the season that got away. It looked more picked over and seemed to have fewer items remaining--not surprising as it is intended more for everyday wear than holiday.

So,this week I ended up spending over $1,100 on clothes and accessories. Not good even for the sales. I'm going to enter a spartan period soon and post pictures of my closet, what I have done to mix things up, etc. It will be Steven Alan outlet and the Lyell sample sale and that will be that.

On a related note: I got my Steven Alan hats and cannot praise my beret too much. The other hat is great but the beret is the softest and most beautiful hat I've ever had. If you have $19 to spare, get one. You will love it.

Oh no, wish I saw this earlier, I just ordered the Zora from Totokaelo. Was there any size 2 or 4s left? Are they all black or some in putty as well ? Thanks

Moya said...

Yes--they had all sizes in black, and I think they had some in persimmon and putty. They are currently 30% off. How are you, Jeanette?

Jeanette said...

Hi Moya, I am well thanks. I ended up spending Christmas in the States, my bf is working in New Jersey at the moment, we had a week in New York. I tried on a couple of the Holiday/Resort Mayle items in Barneys, but most of the heavy fabric didn't really look good on me, that's why I went ahead and ordered the Zora in putty when I saw it on sale at Totokaelo, but I agree it would look more elegant in the black. I did shop quite abit on my trip focusing mainly on Miu Miu and APC. The sale seemed to have started earlier this year compare to previous years, by Christmas Barneys virtually had nothing left, but the prices were good, I managed to score Balenciaga pants for $85. Its really sad to see Mayle closing, I hope she'll end up designing for another label but produce similar to what she does for Mayle :)

ps NAP have a further 20% off Mayle at the moment

For some reason, whatever I posted wasn't posting...don't know why, so apologies if you suddenly get repeat posts.

Thanks, Moya, for that sizing help. I wouldn't know for weeks if 6 Ludovine was right for me, until my bf picks it up and mails it to me. Hopefully 6 is right although my Mayle dresses are 8 while some tops are 6. My Ludovine was $375 (sorry, Christina, I answered before, but the answer didn't get posted...), also Emmanuelle for 300 and Melia for 485 (this is the most I've ever paid for any dress, but I happen to be out of town and am not good at buying things unseen, so oh well, hope it's worth it), Senna for around 300 and the Billy cloth for 395 (this is so much more than what you paid for suede...) It's getting a bit addictive, even stressful and costly, this Mayle buying...I wish I were in the city to really try them on, which would make it simpler and less guilt evoking... How was Amandine btw? Was it quite short or flare out too much? Was it a winter fabric? I can't tell from the website. I'm about 5'5" with no hips, sounds like you are taller so maybe a different fit. But as I get older, I am a bit afraid of school girl mini skirt look. It does look like a plain black skirt, not that special or anything, but then maybe useful. Were there Mariko tops and Mitchi and Yves still when you left?

I would like Odette, but I don't think it's possible to get one. I've been dreaming of one perfect Mayle coat. Mine from the 2007 season is pretty but a bit big, and Ludovine's not for real winter.

Yours is a great blog, and much much luck with pregnancy. I think Harumi sounds like a very good purchase for that.

i'm so glad you got the Harumi, what a beautiful top!

did they have the Kaiya in the mustard yellow?

i'm very intrigued by the little cardigans, i don't think i ever saw them in person or online.

i can't wait to see photos of your new pieces. it took me awhile to enter my spartan period, but it looks like it's finally here. as much as i love hearing about everything, my priorities have really shifted. all i do now is scour the web for a good deal on strollers. ;)

Moya, I am glad you made it to the store and found so many items. I would love to see your wardrobe pictures and I agree, a nice project to focus on for a bit

Kim, to your point, do not stress too much with buying your mayle. If the price is good, I am sure you can sell at cost on ebay if the piece does not work for you. :-)

Erica, I saw a Kaiya top in buttercup while at the store (around 3). I believe a 6 or 8. The color is much more of a darker gold than on the website. Very nice.

I also wanted to share what I had heard Jane say yesterday. She spoke to a woman who was abolutely a huge fan and they had a nice 15 min conversation or so. So, loosely paraphrasing, Jane made some of the points in earlier interviews of the biz being so tough and all about volume. Where even an expensive piece seems cheap. She spoke to how much she puts into each piece and hopes people appreciate it. She also was coy about future plans and said something along the lines of well maybe I will be involved in something in the future. She did say she neeeded to take time off for awhile and if she felt that clothes were not available out there that she wanted, that is when she would get involved again. She said the reason she started designing the first place, was because she could not find the clothes she wanted. Overall, she came across as extremely gracious.

OK, all this makes me want to go back to the store today just to reconsider some things/see if there are other things out..Er, can I do that? lol!

Oh, Moya, I left the store around 2:15 or so, were you there before? Wonder if we were both there at the same time

Moya said...

I got to Mayle just before 3, Julie, so we missed each other. I guess Jane Mayle was trying to get all the stock out--she really looked like she didn't want to talk to customers. Like all of us, she obviously has work to do. Thank you for the update--that's really interesting and hopeful information. I will miss the store and the girls who work there as well as her line.

The Kaiya top I saw was a size 6, Erica. I don't know if they had an 8 but it looked true to size, maybe even a little small. I held it up against my body but it looked too small for me.

Kim, I think the 6 will work for you. My Ludovine is an 8--although I could fit into the 6, it was a little tight. I have mainly 8s and 10s in Mayle dresses (although I also have 2 size 6 dresses). I have mainly size 8 tops, although I now have a 0 and one size 10. The Emmanuelle was a deal at $300 and the Melia looks like it will sell out. I love the Senna and they were out of some of the sizes yesterday. They had Yves, Mitchi and Mariko when I left--I think they were all in size 6. Nobody was looking at them.

Amandine is basic. It falls a few inches above the knee on me (I'm around 5'10") and is a bit schoolgirl, although I love school girl box pleat skirts, but in a good, grown-up way. My problem with it is that I already have three similar skirts--one from Club Monaco, the other two from Lyell (both identical because I love the skirt and got one for $40 at a sample sale, the other for $20 the next year). I also have a long-haired cat and the fabric (which is a heavy winter gabardine) was picking up fibers from items in the store so I can only imagine how much it would pick up Peeps' fur.

They also had the blue Odette (which is a really warm coat). I imagine it is around $375 too and certainly I'd get it if you can. I've worn mine so much and I love it.

Which 2007 coat do you have? I've got two from that season--Vera (which I wore yesterday) and Raisa.

I think you got some great deals, Kim. You'd hate it if you missed Mayle's final collection and while I think there may be some kind of final sale, it isn't going to have that much stock. And, thanks for the pregnancy wishes. It has been very stressful so far and I so hope I can wear Harumi while pregnant.

Hi Jeanette! I hope you had a great Christmas in the US (and that it wasn't too cold for you). The sales did start really early this year and the prices were good, but there wasn't as much stock as in previous years. I think Zora is one of Jane Mayle's best pieces ever--I'm determined to get it but I'm hoping for another reduction. I hope you enjoy it--the light fabric will be perfect for Australia. Did you get any other Mayle items? The deal you got on the Balenciaga tops was amazing.

Moya said...

Whoops, I meant Balenciaga pants, Jeanette!

Also, fyi, Mayle has no closing date set so far and it will likely shut at the end of February, so there is time for all of us to get more pieces out of later pay checks!

Also, no Votivo candle burning yesterday :(.

My coat might be from the 2006 season in fact. I don't know what it was called but I got it at that crazy spring sample sale, the long black one with a brown leather trimmed collar around the neck. It's beautiful, a little big in size 8 but I love it, and wear it all the time. BUT I did just get the navy Odette! Thanks, Moya. It was $404. I think Vera coat is lovely. It's also the sort of thing that will be timeless. Oh, I also got a Mitchi top, surprising it was there, it had sold out when I was last in the store in November. So that's the end of my Mayle spree, and I am not allowed to shop for the rest of 2009...yes, no more guilt since it was also quite exciting. Now I cannot wait to get my package.

You will wear Harumi pregnant, it will be a lovely look. Sorry the process is stressful. That's also my goal for later this year, so I hear you. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Moya said...

I have that coat! I got it in December 2006 (I also have an 8 and it fits well). I think it has a lot of cashmere in it because it drapes perfectly.

I'm glad you got Odette. I love it so much and it is so warm. Mitchi was one of the returned items from Opening Ceremony LA. I love it--I have Yves in that fabric and it is really lovely and will be versatile once we get over this horrid weather.

I hope we can both get pregnant this year and wear our lovely Mayle tops until we're just too big to fit into them.

Moya said...

And I hear you about no more spending for 2009. I am going to buy very little this year. And wasn't that Mayle sample sale in June 2007 amazing? I got 4 dresses, two pairs of sandals, two cardigans and two skirts all for about $800.

Jeanette said...

Hi Moya, you must post pictures of your collection. As for me, I had a awesome white Christmas in NY, loved all the snow, no other Mayle pieces lately except for the Zora. Totokaelo just reduced all their Mayle pieces to 50% off today, I am really tempted by a couple of dresses.

Moya said...

I'm glad you had a good Christmas, Jeanette. I saw the Totokaelo sale and with all this week's shopping, I decided to sleep on Thea. Alas, when I checked this morning, the size 8 had sold. I wish they had more larger sizes! It also looks like eluxury are selling out of the larger size items I want. Oh well.

I will post photos soon--especially of my new finds.

pine said...

I did the same thing. I thought I would wait on the Billie Doux sable, and it's already gone from the store. The black leather one is just 30 percent off, which is too much still, and the other color's not even on sale. Maybe the bags will come back somehow, the way Zora and Mitchi did, back to the store in the next round of sale, maybe Thea will too. I guess it goes to 40 percent next, do you know when, Moya?

Jeanette said...

Totokaelo was really good, they gave me a credit for the price difference between Sat and Sun, which means I got my Zora for 50% off. I want those APC boots, but they are still pretty expensive at $340.

Moya said...

Kim--they have the Billie Doux in sable for $305 at myhush.com. It's half off their price which was $610--$40 cheaper than Mayle. I don't know what Mayle's next reductions will be. From talking to the girls in the shop, it seems likely they will have another reduction--I'd imagine to 60%--but I don't think they know for sure what will happen and when. I'd imagine it would be nearer the end of February. It's always risky waiting but I feel there will be something I like left in my size, even though they may not be the pieces I loved the most at first. That said, I never considered Harumi and I love it, so there is something exciting about the process.

Jeanette--that's really great to hear. I love Zora and that's cheaper than anybody had it.

pine said...

Thanks, Moya, for that myhush tip, but I realized that I meant sable black. I guess sable is like dark brown, whereas sable black is grey, which I like better. Why can't Mayle just name them according to the color as we know it? It looked a little big in the photo...is it like a satchel/briefcase size? Can you carry it on your shoulder btw? (I did buy billie cloth for my sister and am thinking of sable black for myself) I was also tempted by Harumi, but had to restrain at some point. Now I keep thinking about Yves dress, is it quite short? Have you seen both rose and gray? They only had size 6 although I seem to be 8 for Mayle dresses (although coat & tops are mostly 6). In the lookbook, the model has a belt on, so it's hard to tell, the waistline. I guess there will be that 60 % sale which I will miss out on (where surely you will find something your size 8, it's true, the problem with Mayle is that with such a limited selection, you always find something you want, even long after you thought you were done).

That 2007 sample sale was indeed amazing. I remember getting so confused, though. I think I bought that long beautiful black coat we both have for $175, although it kind of evened out because I also bought several not-as-cheap things which I hardly wore afterward and ended up giving away to my sister...the nature of sample sale!

Moya said...

Hi Kim,

Briefly (as I have to get dinner), I think the color in the myhush photo is wrong. The bag is a grayish color, and it is pretty big. I can carry it over my shoulder--the straps do adjust--and I think I could stick my powerbook in there and some books, no trouble!

I have an Yves in a 10. I think it runs a little small in the back and maybe in the arms, but it is big on the waist. There is a reason why the lookbook belts it--I've been looking for a belt in Mayle so I can do the same. It is above the knee but not super short. I've seen both colors and they are both really nice, but I prefer the rose, which is the one I have.

pine said...

Thanks, Moya! My bf is picking up my Mayle stuff right now from the store, and I just got paranoid that I might have bought all the wrong sizes, but I guess in that case, I could just put it on ebay with the tag on and at least try to recoup the cost, although I have never used ebay in my life. When you get to it one day, it would be fun to see your Mayle photos!

Moya said...

Hi Kim,

I think you should be OK with most of your stuff--I know it is hard to tell, especially as Mayle does vary in size. I hope it all fits.

I have a size 2 dress I have to put on Ebay (I've never done it either). Evan went to the April sample sale for me (I was in California for a conference) and picked up one dress in size 2 that was on a size 8 hanger.

We do have great boyfriends to do this for us! When will you get to try everything on?

pine said...

I won't receive my things for another week or so (the international shipping will be crazy expensive...Normally, I would just leave them at our apt for when I come home in a few months, but in this case, if they don't fit, I would have to put it on ebay right away...Let me know if you manage to put your dress on Ebay, if it was do-able (what a great bf, btw, to even go to a sample sale for you!) My bf said that there was a Yves in 6, but I didn't want to risk it since you wear 8 but have 10 and said that it runs even a little bit small, and I wear 8 in dresses and shouldn't go down. But Yves does look so pretty, more and more I look at it...Now that the box is being shipped, I really shouldn't buy more, but it's strange how so many of these items are just so hard to erase from your mind...

I am thinking about that Billie suede ("sable/black" or "sable", hope you are right that it's a same thing), probably should decide before it's gone...do you like yours?

Moya said...

I like my Billie in suede. I would have preferred leather but it wasn't reduced. I love the color and will use it as soon as the snow finishes.

I know what you mean about being tempted by the Mayle items. I do love Yves. I am mainly big in the back (I have broad shoulders) and tiny in the front, which is where Yves is big on me. I think the 10 is a small 10 as I mentioned. I'm an 8-10 in Mayle usually with the occasional size 6. It's tough to tell if Yves would fit you. I can measure mine to give you an idea what the 10 is like.

I do have a good boyfriend and it seems like you do too. Where are you right now?

pine said...

My bf said that no Billie, leather or suede, is left at the store, which must be true since when I called a few days ago, they only had one gray leather one left, not on sale. The black one was on sale, although not sure anymore I'm in Korea for a few months for work...a bit crazy, I would never go through all this trouble ordering by phone and shipping etc, if it weren't Mayle...

I think I will order Billie suede from myhush. Have you ordered from them before? Are they trustworthy? In their policy, it says no exchange on sale item...I have actually never ordered clothes online, so totally new at all this!

pine said...

Oh btw thanks for your offer to measure your Yves, but not worth the trouble since the store doesn't even carry 10, and I am a different build, I think, kind of in-between size, 34 C between 6 and 8, which is why depending on the cut, it varies. So the problem's not Mayle but my body type! I actually went to an exclusive department store here where they carry a very limited stock of Mayle (over twice the full price) to check out sizing, and I could have done Cecile size 4 or 6 (I got size 8), while I fit into Harumi size 4 (which you got size 0). Unfortunately, they didn't have anything else I bought there. Maybe if 8 Yves pops up somewhere, I might consider it, probably once I have received my package and feel assured that this over-spending was in fact worth it...

Moya said...

I think myhush are reputable. I emailed them and they were really quick to get back to me. I've only ever ordered online from eluxury (Mayle Lily dress), ped shoes, anthropologie and the gap. I've ordered over the phone from Odessa in Portland. I would order from Hush, however. And with a bag, there really isn't the size issue which is my main beef with online orders. I think myhush have Bille cheaper than anyone else.

Moya said...

I hope you get your package soon, Kim. What did you get in the end? I hope you are having a good time in Korea. I didn't know they stocked Mayle there. I had a hard job finding it in London--the only place I spotted it was in Harvey Nicks and all the pieces were resort 07.

pine said...

Done, bought the bag on myhush. Thanks for your tip, Moya. In the end, I got Ludovine black, Odette navy, Emmanuelle (I understand that you found it very small, I am trying to block that out since I bought size 6, no point obsessing until it gets here...), Melia, Billie sable. Then also: Cecile, Senna, Mitchi, Billie fabric, but these will most likely go to my sister, another Mayle fan,(about my size), depending on which fits whom; I can already tell Cecile will be too big on me. They do stock Mayle here, at a Barney equivalent shop, but in a very small quantity, very expensive and only in like size 0 because women are so thin. It's certainly not popular here. I will update when my box arrives (I would have to do this fed ex, since imagine losing the package in the post after all this??), and maybe I'll check in with the store once in a while to see if they will get a return on Yves 8 or something, although they do sometimes throw an attitude over phone... It will be fun to read what else you end up getting! Jane Mayle should really throw a goodbye party for all her devotees...

Christina said...

I saw a Billie on ebay and I believe it ends soon! I'm stalking a blouse at the moment but I doubt I'll win seeing the high price points that other pieces have been selling at. Jane should give Moya and us devoted fans some sort of vip pass to her final sale/sample sale, whatever that may be in the end. There must be something for us. We need to harass Mayle about getting a list of those stockists. I don't understand why they won't provide this to anyone-I've emailed twice. However, I did receive an email from Christina regarding sold out items I was looking for and she suggested Impulse, Hejfina and Barneys. Done that and I have to say the people at Barneys, specifically Beverly Hills, were hasty and arrogant on the phone. I didn't feel like giving them my card number so I passed on trying to order anything via phone. Mayle screwed up my order and charged me for eniko instead of mitchi. When Elise called me to confirm my order, they still had Mitchi in stock, thankfully. I regret not asking for free shipping due to that huge error on their end. Hejfina did a similar thing by double charging me so girls, check your statements when you order anything via phone. I am anxiously awaiting my blouses from Mayle and Metier. Our UPS guy just rings the doorbell and leaves the package by the door so I'm paranoid about someone stealing my mail, I mean Mayle-pun intended.

How is the fit with the Senna jacket and Eniko dress? I almost bought Eniko from Metier but the girls there say it runs big, especially in the shoulders and arm holes.
Moya, I was also wondering about the sizing of Lyell tops and dresses? I've always wanted one of their laced blouses but I've never seen their clothes in person. Everything looks so delicate.

By the way, did you girls get your free cosmetics today? google free cosmetics/settlement if you have no idea what I'm talking about.

Christina said...

forgot to ask if anyone made it to the jcrew sample sale today in nyc?

Moya said...

I didn't go to the J. Crew sale, Christina. I worked on my book and while it was printing up (all 500+ pages of it), I watched the inauguration. I didn't like Michelle Obama's outfit--the color was wrong on her (and she can wear nearly any color), the cut was matronly and the fabric too fussy. Still, it was a great day.

I heard the J.Crew sale had tons of stock but a lot was damaged and marked SAMPLE in black pen. My friend used to work for them and she bought samples for me that have the same markings. Also, much of the stock is cheaper in the store.

Thanks for letting us know about the charge mix-ups too. That's another reason I only use a credit card to order stock. Elise and Christina at Mayle are so lovely (they are my favorites) and I know they'll sort it out but that's still frustrating. By the way, Eniko runs true to size, maybe small. I would have gone up to a 10 if there had been any left. It is cut quite narrow in the hips and the armholes are not large. They must have been thinking about another dress. I'd get it from Metier while you can. I wish they had some items in my size at those prices!

Lyell generally runs small. It is delicate, but so well made that it is surprisingly durable. Their coats are particularly tiny--all of mine are 10 and 12s (they no longer make a 12, which is really an 8). That said, they do make the occasional item that runs big--I have some 6s and a size 4 Claire dress from their sample sale last year. Honestly (and I hate to say this), it is a line you have to try on. She has amazing sales about twice a year but only emails you the day of--or the day before--to let you know. Alas, the fashion magazine/PR establishment get in first and buy up the most coveted pieces, but I've got some real steals by getting up early and being near the first in line. She has a much more limited production run than Mayle and her collection is far smaller. That said, she's getting more stockists now so either there will be bigger sales with more stock--or the economy will kill her business. Emma is lovely and I hope she survives but her recent price hikes have been insane. Three years ago, her blouses retailed for around $200 and her dresses were about $300.

You got some great items, Kim. Both coats are amazing. I am tall and Emmanuelle just didn't fit right, but my shoulders are the issue here and you are built differently so I hope (and believe) it will work. Your sister is very lucky to have a sibling like you! Let us know what fits and how it looks when you get it. I'm glad you got the Billie bag--I think they only had one. It is lovely and completely sold out at the reduced prices (eluxury still have it at full price).

The shipping thing is scary--in NYC, they'll do things like dump it at your door, give it to a neighbor, or return it to sender. Once I had some Marc Jacobs sandals go missing and the store graciously sent me another pair.

By the way, Christina, did Barneys SF have much Mayle left? I may give them a call even though I am not supposed to get anything else until Mayle's final sale...

Biscuit said...

hurray, more mayle talk!

christina, i agree with moya that eniko runs true to size. i definitely don't think it runs big-- a zero was definitely too small on me in the hips, as it is meant to be a sheath dress. another consideration: buying it too big and tailoring is not really an option, as the zippers prevent easy alterations.

also agree that lyell is all over the place, but generally runs small. i have a bunch of pieces, mostly 2s and 4s. i think i am going to put a few things up on ebay whenever i get around to it. i have some nice pieces that i just don't wear anymore, including a dress that i saw go on ebay for $500! that seems ridiculous to me. i also have never sold anything on ebay before, has anyone else?

work has really prevented me from taking advantage of all these fun mayle sales, but it's probably for the better, since i spent a lot on myself over the holiday season what with all the crazy sales. i've recently been finding a lot of good stuff at century 21, even though you have to dig through a lot of nonsense to find it. but a rick owens cashmere coat for $200! i can't complain.

has anyone found out what sebastian or metier has left? hope you girls are all doing well, and can't wait to hear how your new purchases work out!!

Christina said...

Thanks for the info on lyell and eniko. I was surprised she chose Isabel Toledo and yes, it was very matronly. I would have rather seen her in more color, perhaps something from Lela Rose. Moya, next time you're in Barney's co-op, ask the associate to look up Mayle on their computer. They can access current inventory (accurate within a few hours) from all of their b&m stores. I only inquired about eniko and they were able to locate the dress ($169) at san francisco but when I called directly, it had sold out hours before. I spoke with a guy and I have a feeling he lied and didn't bother to check the floor because I emailed the store directly the next day and they said the dress was still in stock. I also called beverly hills and they said it was in stock. It seemed too much work so I gave up. I'll just hope to find it elsewhere or wait for it to show up on ebay.

Susie, all of metier's Mayle stock is listed on their blog. They have one kita left in size 2 for $142! I ordered the 0 so I hope it isn't too small. They had some amazing deals on isabel marant as well. They will hold onto resort through spring.

I've sold some anthropologie and other clothing items through my dad's ebay account. It's fairly easy to list an item but make sure you provide really crisp, detailed shots and complete descriptions, sizing info as it increases your chances of more bids. Last year, I sold a new vena cava macintosh dress for $270 that I bought for $50. Most lyell items sell high on ebay so susie, you'll definitely break even and possibly profit.

If you're near one of these stores, be sure to stop in and get some free cosmetics...
Bergdorf Goodman, Bergner’s, Bloomingdale’s, Boston Store, Carson Pirie Scott, Dillard’s, Gottschalks, Herberger’s, Macy’s, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Parisian
Saks Fifth Avenue, Younkers
I stopped at my local mall and picked up two jars of clinique moisture surge and estee lauder night serum. These major cosmetic companies were sued for price gouging and the settlement was to give away free full sized products to consumers who purchased their goods in the past.

Thanks for all the tips, Christina. I have to finish my book this week--but I may call Barneys in Beverley Hills and SF tomorrow. If I can get deals, I can manage iffy salespeople!

I've got a doctor's appointment tomorrow (starting to see if I can do IVF). I am terrified and will go into the dept. stores for the cosmetics settlement on my way home. I hope I am a candidate for IVF and I so hope it works. It is going to be a lot more expensive than Mayle, that's for sure...

christina, i know what you mean about the barney's salespeople. i have had similar experiences (i.e. strong suspicions of lying!) when i have called their stores before. in fact, i am now recalling that when i called barney's boston, they told me new york was the only barneys that carried mayle!

i will probably pass on kita because i already have veva. i hope you like it! as moya mentioned, the silk is really beautiful.

moya, i will keep my fingers crossed for you tomorrow! best of luck-- i am sure that even if this does not work out, something surely will!

Moya,

Goodluck with your doctor's appointment, I hope everything goes well.

Moya, I wish you the best at the doctor tomorrow.
By the way, what is your book about? I'm sure you are relieved it is almost near completion so you can focus on conceiving. One less thing to worry about, I suppose. Your writing is compelling and eloquent in how you tell a story. Because of mayle, I found your blog and it has been one that I truly enjoy reading.

Today, I received kita and mitsuko paradiso and I LOVE them both! They look so much better in person than online. I was afraid the paradiso print would make me look as though I was wearing furniture textiles but not at all. It drapes well and looks great layered with a cardigan or with a black above the knee skirt. The sleeves on kita are a bit tighter than I anticipated but it fits ok if I don't gain any. I think it looks better with short or 3/4 sleeves but it's tight when I roll them up. The paradiso print really exceeded my expectations. Is the eniko dress lined?

Moya, Good luck with your doctor's appt. It seems that things are in order for you, with the book ending and the new chapter of life beginning. We will keep our fingers crossed for you! I will update on my Mayle purchases. The international shipping was like 150 dollars, so I had to tell my bf to leave out the Billig bag for my return, but the others are arriving in about a week! Can't wait.

mayle's last sale, really??

kim, that shipping is insane and I hope everything is insured. One of my friends is from Seoul and she goes on a shopping spree for her sister before she visits home every year. She says everything is heavily marked up, including many korean brands. I hope everything works out! I am so in love with my mayle and regret not buying sooner. I would exchange all my anthropologie and jcrew for mayle if I could.

I'll be at the Lyell sale on Saturday, Christina. I just got home from my marathon doctor's appointment, at the postcard was there.

I think Mayle may reduce the stock further--I hope I can get some more pieces for sure.

I thought the shipping was not so bad--I've spent over $50 sending shirts to my brother. Overseas shipping is insane. I do hope it arrives safely, Kim.

I'll also post about the Lyell sale Saturday when I get back. I have to decompress at the moment from my doctors' appointment. Thank you for all your lovely and touching well wishes. I have a small chance of conceiving as I am over 35 and IVF rates dip precipitously (where did those last years go, I wonder). But I saw an egg folicle in my ultrasound which was pretty incredible and hope that one becomes my baby--I'd give all my Mayle up for that, all my Lyell, and all my future clothing.

I agree with you, Christina, about the Mayle being so wonderful. I only started buying it about 3 years ago and wish I'd started sooner. I used to look in and just wish it was cheaper, but price per wear, it has been one of the better bargains. Alas, it's true that the beautiful style and quality comes at a cost. While there are some Club Monaco pieces I have and love, my Mayle is by far away my favorite.

That said, Anthropologie make the best nightdresses, bar none.
