The Wait

Right now, if I wasn't swamped enough with grading and writing, I have several errands that I have to do that are incredibly time sensitive. I have to get a new (UK) passport so I can go home for Christmas. I also have to get photos for said passport and even in NYC that's not easy. Today I spent most of the morning googling and calling and got virtually nowhere, which seems odd in a city of immigrants and visa holders. Our passport photos are not the same as American ones. Plus they have to be signed by a fellow UK or Commonwealth citizen, so I'm asking my dear friend Isabelle if she can sign them tonight (as a Canadian, she is qualified to say I am the person in the photograph).
Then I have to wait to see if my passport gets back to me in time for me to book a ticket and go home.

I'm also getting emails about sample sales. Some--Fillipa K, Cardigan, and Steven Alan--are of some interest but I am trying to keep focused and concentrate on Mayle. They aren't making it easy. Every other store seems to have started markdowns but I have finite cash and there's finite Mayle left. So I'll pass on the others, and hope Mayle at least has 40% off postcards or emails coming my way fast.

ugh, sounds like such a pain! i need to find my passport for our paris trip. i haven't used it in nearly 2 years, so who knows where it is.

so many markdowns lately, but i'm holding out for the 60-75% reductions. i think i'll wait til the veva is further reduced, just because i can't really afford it even at 50% when i'm dreaming of holiday and resort...

i hope your ebay purchase has arrived. i can't imagine why it would take so long if it's within the city.

I just got the postcard from Mayle today--up to 40% off starting Wednesday ending November 30. I think they are suggesting that that will be that. I don't know if it is just to spur on sales. But regardless, I feel better about splurging at Odessa. I may get two dresses--Eniko in Paradiso and the black dress with the cut outs, if they have them. I doubt there are any of the red plaid dress left.

Still no ebay package. NYC can be crazy but it should have been there Saturday.

I did get my passport photos. They are pretty hideous--for a British passport, you can't smile, have hair near your face or wear glasses (I don't wear glasses, but it gives you an idea of how stringent they are). Now to find my old passport.

Glad you got your photos quickly! I hope your ebay package turns up soon! Did the seller confirm that he/she sent it last week?

Interesting re: the "up to 40%" I wonder if that means most things will be marked down less than 40%? Wednesday happens to be the first day of a vacation for me, so I will probably check it out then and can report back!

I don't know what it means but would love to hear your reports. I can't make it in until Thursday as I teach from 9 am-8.30 p.m. Wednesdays. Can you let me know how the 8s and 10s are, especially in Eniko in Paradiso and the black dress with cut-outs. I have a feeling I'll buy a couple of pieces just because I don't want to take the risk of losing anything.

Any luck with the Odette or Ludovine, Susie?

i will definitely ask about your sizes and let you know. i think the dress with the cutouts is kaori or something like that-- i know which one you are talking about.

absolutely no luck with odette! i called louis and metier, noone has my size. wondering if i should get a 2 and wear thicker sweaters underneath? but at that price, i think i should hold out for something perfect, don't you think? i am still hemming and hawing over ludovine. i think i need to see it again in person before i decide whether i would like the coat or would rather have another dress.

good luck with your marathon day of teaching on wednesday!

Thank you Susie! It is Kaori. Can you also report on Tama (the long sleeved black dress--at $740, I want it desperately but can't get it until it is 60% off). The fall items I covet also include Odette.

The ebay seller said she had sent my top on Wednesday so I am going to give it a week and then contact her inc case the post office lost it or returned it to sender. I should get my Odessa stuff tomorrow too!

I'd try Odette with a sweater underneath. Without one, I need a 6 but with one an 8 works well. At 40% off, it would be worth it I think. It's almost sold out at eluxury so I may get it from Mayle this week. My bank account is going to take a major hit this week, but I don't want to risk not getting the items I really want.

Also, I'd check Barneys--they have 40% off Mayle now--you may want to call them (the Madison Ave branch) to see if they have Odette.

I do think you should hang out for something perfect, even at $600 rather than $900. But try Odette with a thick sweater (it will be cold on Wednesday anyway and they are predicting snow, so I'll be wearing Gaia).

I really hope you can get Odette. I just can't think of any other Mayle stockists.

Oh, I also think Fred Segal and Ron Herman sell Mayle, just not in their ecommerce. And Hush out in California--they may be worth calls, Susie.

thanks, moya!!! i will try all of those places (plus i will try odette with a thicker sweater-- there are still plenty of places that are carrying a 2).

Moya, you should call Mayle asap! The sale is great, and Odette is on sale for 595! And they have kaori and eniko (not in the bright paradise print but the gray and white one) all in your sizes! The shop was really busy. I will comment again later but wanted to give you the heads up now! I know you are teaching but you probably order over the phone.

Thanks so much, Susie. I can't even call as I have students in office hours as I am typing. What did you get?

And did they have the paradiso in the top?

Biscuit said...

OK, I'm back with a full report. Not sure which top you're talking about, but in the bright colored paradise print, they had the top with sleeves and a zip across the front. In the sleeveless top, they only had the white and grey print (which was still gorgeous). They also had the dress with the zip up the front, black at the bottom and paradise print at the top (with puff sleeves). The Eniko dress in paradise was already sold out by the time I got there around 12:30 (I saw someone buying the last one).

I tried on a lot of stuff and ending up loving the Olympe coat. Very random, since it had never caught my eye before. I got it in cream as they had already run out of black in my size. But it is even warmer than Odette and very unusual. So I'm happy! I also put in an order with Susan for the Ludovine, but I haven't heard back from her. I hope they still have my size.

I got a poster with pictures of the resort collection and it looks amazing! I will probably end up slurging on a lot of it and then going on shopping hiatus for the next year. The girls at the shop said they hadn't decided yet whether the holiday collection would go on sale, but hopefully it will. Maybe we can meet up at the next sale!

Also, I stopped by the Steven Alan sample sale today and it is HUGE. I was too overwhelmed to take a good look at clothes (though they did not have any Mayle, contrary to the flyer they put out), but they had tons of Gryson bags for $100-200. I got a few to give as gifts. It was very busy this afternoon, but definitely worth a trip, as there was so much stuff it couldn't possibly get picked over tonight.

Can't wait to see what you end up getting!

Thanks so much Susie! I had set my heart on the paradiso dress but I'll get the top instead, I hope. I am planning so far (if they have it) to get that, Kaori (although it is sold out online in 8), the black wool top with the big puff sleeves and maybe Odette.

What did you get? We do have to go to the final sales together. I'm going to try to get to Mayle at noon. I literally had no time at all yesterday to call as we're advising students for registration.

I'll report back later this afternoon. I am hoping that I can splurge on all this Mayle and then intend to really cut back. If Mayle doesn't reduce resort and holiday, I imagine eluxury will.
