The Beginning of the End

I noticed on Wednesday that there were no Votivo Redcurrant candles burning when I went into Mayle (although I some of their smell still pervaded the store). Today I noticed their ecommerce site was down. Whether this means their brief foray into online sales is over or that there was just too much change in the stock for them to keep the site updated I don't know. But it is a harbinger of things to come.

I got my Mayle top from Ebay. Evan had to go to the post office as it came when we were teaching at our respective schools. My top is lovely--I'm waiting for the creases to drop out before photographing it.

No Odessa package yet, however. How greedy can I be? Five new Mayle items this week--four new, one gently used--and I want more! I have to admit I want to snuggle in my Aiko cardigan while it is still freezing out. I wore Odette today--and it is warm. I think I should have got the size 6, not the 8, however. Still, coats aren't meant to be completely snug. I am not as big as I think I am, it seems.

Why with the economy do the last few seasons of Mayle have to be so covetable?!
If anyone knows of any retailer carrying the Odette in size 2 (black) on sale, PLEASE let me know!!! I contacted Mayle and they were completely sold out of this size. I've seen the navy in pictures but it looks black to me. Is it more of a bluish black hue? Did anyone see Gossip Girl this past week? Blake Lively was wearing the Odette in tweed and oh my, it is a GORGEOUS coat!!!!

Again, if anyone sees the Odette in 2, let me know
Thanks so much!!!
Chris

Chris,

The Odette isn't a true navy, it's more a steel blue/blueish grey, I'd say. It's really beautiful in person. The only place I know of carrying Odette in black is la garconne, and it is definitely not on sale.

Moya- I decided not to get anything on hush. Barneys had additional markdowns, so I snapped up an Eniko in ivory paradiso (too big, but if it's close enough I'll keep it and have it altered) and a Liliane. The prices appear the same as they were last week, but when you add it to your bag, it gets further reduced. Barneys is notorious about canceling orders, though, so I guess we'll see what happens. I really wanted Eniko, though, so hopefully that will work out. I might return Liliane if something I like better comes up in other sales. They also have Ninon, the beaded top (like Kaori), Riri, cream Jeanne, a few other things, and Yves! I haven't seen Yves in a long time. Only one in a size 4, though.

I think from holiday I only want Zora and Athena. And Christina was wearing the Marius jacket when I was at the shop and it is also gorgeous (though I have to wonder how much use I'll get out of a cropped leather jacket--it might be one of those things I just like to see hanging in my closet).

Oh, Bird also carries Odette in black. But also not on sale! Good luck.

moya-
i hope your Odessa package arrives soon. i'm greedy, too, even if the pieces aren't for me! i just love hearing about mayle, it can be such a spectator sport for me.

i guess my Eniko will arrive on monday. crossing my fingers that i stay small enough to wear it to my baby shower. matthew ordered me the nomia tunic dress, but i think it's a christmas present, so it'll probably be wrapped up.

cannot wait to see photos of the resort collection. it's amazing how, in spite of the economy, everything is selling so quickly.

I feel the same way, Chris. I think that if Mayle wasn't closing, we'd all be able to get everything we wanted on sale. She literally seems to be the only designer selling out. I will take photos of Odette and post them (my memory card is corrupted). But to reinforce what Susie said, it is a steely blue, not really Navy. It's a lot lighter, the same tone as a mid-gray. I'm very happy to get it in the blue as I have three black Mayle coats already. I think the photos all show the black coat--it is really misleading. I would also contact Bird to see if they have it in 2. It also runs big. I think I should have got a 6.

Thanks for the tip, Susie. I'm going to see what they have in Barneys today. I checked what they had online and Eniko is sold out. I want to see what they have in their main store as they usually have more stock there. Again, I'll report back.

Erica, I'll definitely report on my Odessa package--I love hearing about your finds and definitely enjoy the spectator sport element. I'm getting very impatient to wear Aiko and I really want to try Ludovine on in the black. I can't believe how greedy I am for Mayle this year. I will try to scan the poster and get some of the photos up online. I am stunned that the economy doesn't seem to have affected Mayle's sales one bit--everyone else is really struggling to dump inventory. There were some 25+ sample sales here this week, including some from designers I'd be interested in if it wasn't for Mayle closing.

I've also surprised myself at how Mayle-obsessed I've been this year, but I have to think it's because it's the end. I do think that the sales will eventually trickle down through the online sites, but there's still a danger that you'll miss out on what you want. I've noticed there's been a lot less Mayle on ebay, too.

Moya, please let me know if Barneys has any smaller sizes left- I may have to stop in there tomorrow. Thanks!

I think there are 2s and 0s, Susie. It's worth going to the Co-Op floors at Madison Avenue as there are lots of good reductions. I got Yves in rose!

Liliane has sold out at Barneys--at least there were none left on the floor.

My Odessa package has still not arrived, Erica. I think the post is playing up as it took so long to get my Ebay package from Manhattan. I just worry it got lost in the mail.
