Cacharel?

Just a quick note here. The assistant in Barneys told me there were rumors that Jane Mayle was being courted by several design houses, particularly Cacharel. Whether there is any substance to this, I don't know, but it could be interesting. Whatever happens, it won't be her house and so the designs will likely not be Mayle as such, and may not have all the details we've come to expect/love.

do you know how lyell is doing? i love her designs, but most everything is too delicate to fit my lifestyle.

I don't know Lyell is doing. Everything seems very delicate indeed this season--I liked some of it, but I just imagined the dry cleaning costs and the price per wear didn't seem worth it, unless it is heavily marked down. I suspect Mayle closing has really helped Emma as many stores have now picked up Lyell (like Jake, Bird, La Garconne). I still suspect she might have trouble. I loved the line when it was more affordable and some of the blouses from 2-3 years back are staples I love, as is my black peacoat. But she's had several sample sales recently and seems to be going too far into the 1970s look or the pretty but too delicate evening wear. It is a shame as she makes beautiful clothes. The price point this season was ridiculous though--one of her slip dresses was nearly $900.
