VanJean sale

Even though they had no Theodoras left (nor Hera), VanJean has an amazing sale. They just called me and I got Rocio from Spring/Summer, size 8 in cream for $50 and Thea in putty, size 8 (which I may have to get altered) for $120. I just hope they fit--if not, I think I can sell both on ebay. Of course, I have yet to put that cream Pilar dress in size 2 up on ebay, Evan's mistaken purchase from the spring sample sale.

Resort isn't on sale yet but they have Melia, Jacinthe in size 8, Mirabella in cream and several other pieces.

They said to carry on calling as the sale is huge. Even though I may not fit into Rocio, I had to take the risk (it may be an incentive to diet). I'm posting this now because I know that several of you may want to get on the phone to them right now. Keep calling as I suspect they have a lot more in the smaller sizes.

Also, they were very sweet and thorough, even offering to send me dresses to try on. Postage is only $8.

goodness, those are amazing prices! i called, but they didn't have anything i was interested in in my size. they also have bebel in 2 (didn't ask the price but i assume it is less than $100), oscalita in 4 (probably around $65 or 70), and pilar in 2 ($70). i already have bebel and oscalita so i passed on those. and the quartina jacket in 6 (again, i didn't ask how much, but assume it's definitely less than $100)! this is really a great find!

Moya said...

I should also mention that they had Ana Claudia in 6 and possibly 8, Bebel in 6, some black pants in size 8, Pilar in 8, Rosamelia in 8 and the Anna Luisa romper (which I have in 10 and love) in a size 6. These prices are so amazing that I wish I was smaller so I could have bought more.

Christina said...

omg, those are amazing deals! I didn't have a chance to call today and they never emailed me back.
I'm glad you found some great things, Moya. You should have ordered more! I just saw some of those dresses you mentioned sell on ebay for $250! VanJean is having a huge sale this fri-sat so much of it may be lowered even further. Some of those prices are better than the sample sale. Did you get Rocio in blue? Thea in putty was a steal!! Any belts or bags?

Susie, do you remember what they had in smaller sizes? I'm afraid to call and buy on impulse. I have to plan my purchase before I make the call.

Biscuit said...

just the things i mentioned. i don't think they had anything else! sounds like it got cleaned out, and at those prices, it's no surprise!

christina, you have inspired me to do some more mayle-related detective work, so i will definitely post here if i find anything!

Christina said...

are they familiar with the style names as we are?
I'm thinking about Oscalita in 4. How is the fit? Bebel is stunning but I remember you guys saying the fit was off, big in the shoulders, roomy in the waist. Is it a dress I could wear a sweater over to conceal the back during the day?

Moya said...

I didn't ask about bags or belts--I should have done. Christina you should call. They didn't email me back. Let me know about bags and belts. I wish I was the kind of person to resell on ebay--I would have got a lot more, but I don't want to be greedy and I don't want to risk having things on my hands I can't use. Certainly, I'd call. They walked me through the racks and read what they had. I know Ana Claudie runs really small in the back and shoulders otherwise I'd have risked that. I don't like Rosamelia at all. I love Bebel but it doesn't love my coloring.

Moya said...

Oscalita runs small in the hips--the 10 was a tad tiny on me. I think the 4 would fit you. Bebel runs a little large on top--I think it was the color that didn't work for me. If you call, ask them if they have it in an 8 because if they do, I think I'll get it.

Moya said...

And, yes, you can wear a cardigan over Bebel. These would be ideal for Dallas weather-the silk on Oscalita is the same as Lily and my romper and it is just beautifully soft.

Biscuit said...

i have oscalita in 4 and it fits me (though a 2 would have been fine). at that price, i think you should definitely get it, and bebel. i don't personally love the way bebel fits me, but i still have it hanging in my closet, so there must be something i like about it!

i am wondering if i should have asked about size 6s since at these prices, we can afford some tailoring.

Moya said...

I feel the same way about some of the 8s I skipped. I feel embarrassed calling again so if anybody else gets through, can you see if there are any items I missed on my run-through of the size 8s?

Also, they know the style numbers and read them off to you.

Moya said...

I mean, the style names.

Moya said...

Vanjean just called me because they found a laeticia blouse (which I already have). They close at 6 Eastern Time, Christina, and open at 10 am. They have stock left. I got the Bebel in a 6. It was $70 and I know I can sell it on ebay if it doesn't fit. After all, Serena wore it on Gossip Girl. She says there are people in the changing rooms with clothing so sometimes items reappear from there.

Only bags are the Billie Doux from resort, alas.

Christina said...

so is everything less than$100 mainly from resort and spring? Sounds like holiday is pretty much gone! So sad. What season is Laeticia and Quartina from? I can't find those images in the lookbooks.
I'm definitely going to call when they open so I hope there will be some things left. Susie, I agree it would be worth it just to have things tailored. Seriously, you can't find these prices on ebay or even at consignment like LNA.
I wish they would post pics like Coplons did. They could sell everything just to readers of this blog.

Moya said...

Laetitia is from resort 07--it is the French blue blouse with the white piping in cotton (worn by the model with a pair of white pants). Quartina is the white short-sleeved jacket from summer that wasn't in the lookbook. I think it has lace on the sleeves. I'd have gotten it but it would not be so useful in NYC and it was a 6. I think they have some holiday (I got Thea). It may have sold out earlier.

I recommend the Anna Lucia romper. I love mine and it runs a bit small.

I got the Rocio in cream. I never thought I'd find it for $50. I'm like you and I like to plan purchases but at this price, it is worth taking a risk. I'd call them at 10 am tomorrow, Christina. You never know what they'll have. At that time, nobody will be in their changing rooms either.

I spoke to Mary--she was lovely and thanked me for spreading the word.

Christina said...

Susie, do you know if the Pilar they had was in cream or black? I will get oscalita if it's still there and maybe bebel. What size and price was Laeticia? I adore that french blue color. I have an old blueprint magazine where the cover model is wearing Basia in french blue. After I saw it, I was trying to find that dress everywhere but to no avail. Did they have anything from fall 08?

Moya said...

They didn't mention anything from Fall 08. Laetitia looks baggy but runs a little small in the shoulders and back--I have a 10 and it is on the small side. I imagine Laetitia was about $50--I paid $125 for it at the sample sale! I love that color too.

I wonder if a lot of their stock sold over the weekend. I think these were really recent markdowns, but whatever we get at these prices is a real bonus.

Biscuit said...

pilar was in cream (i might have gotten it in black, but i really have way too many white dresses as is).

moya, i adore rocio-- did you get it in cream or blue? either way, it's a phenomenal steal. i actually think the bebel in 6 might be perfect for you-- i think it runs pretty big, especially on top. christina, i hope you end up with something you like! oscalita is cute-- i actually had a tailor remove the collar on mine. if it is too big, you can easily take it in, too.

Biscuit said...

oh also, christina, you asked whether my basia was almond or blue-- it is in almond! sorry!

pine said...

Amazing. I can't believe you found this store and these items, both you and Christina. I am so glad that you got your Thea for $120!

I've never seen these before. Does Rocio run small? (since you got an 8 and are worried about the sizing).

I looked up Ana Claudia and Bebel and Pilar, but it's hard to tell online. What are they like in person? Pilar looks too much lace perhaps, and true, white lace is a bit difficult...and Bebel doesn't look like Mayle to me, is it beige or gold? I can see why the fit might be difficult, because of the neckline maybe...this would be a hard one to pick unseen, even at this price. Ana Claudie is curious...is it a dress? Looks more like a long top.

Laetitia looks lovely, did they have more in 6 or 8, do you remember?

Anna Luisa romper's lovely too but is it obviously pants? I don't wear skirt-like pants...but it does look so lovely, maybe I could get it altered into a skirt...

This is SO exciting, another set of Mayle to contemplate. I don't know why I don't remember any of these items. I just looked through the Spring 2008 lookbook, and the only thing I remember is Lille blouse, which I loved in the store and missed out on.

I will ask whatever left in stock if I call tomorrow and update.

Christina said...

I read on shoptart's site that last year she found a Mayle blouse for $20 at VanJean marked down from three figures so they seem generous with the markdowns. You won't see those kind of deals here in Dallas or New York! I hope you will be able to get Jacinthe if it lasts until the next sale. Do you think Mary would give us Mayle fans the heads up on future sales?

These sales are difficult to deal with because I really need to save but it's now or never as Moya mentioned before. Susie, let me know how much you will be listing your Mayle.

Biscuit said...

good grief-- sorry for the multiple posts, but vod just sent me an email and it has marked some of their stock down to 70%. i had emailed about yves and i am getting it for $160! it is a 0 so i sure hope it fits.

i just called them to see what else they have and picked up the kaiya top in buttercup for $100. in smaller sizes, they have marion in size 2 for $180, and allegra (LOVE this blouse) in size 4 for $250, but the woman i spoke with said she could do $200. she said this runs small and a 2 could definitely wear it. someone snag it! i can't justify spending so much on a blouse right after buying zora.

unfortunately, they don't have any 8s or 10s left, but if you wear a 6, you might want to ring them.

Biscuit said...

christina, you can have first dibs on anything i decide to put on ebay (i was going to list everything with a buy-it-now option anyway). i will try to snap some pictures this weekend and will let you know.

Moya said...

Anna Luisa could easily turn into a dress with the right tailor, Kim. I don't usually like rompers but I love this one (and the silk is great). Anna Claudia is definitely a dress--it's the last one in the Mayle summer 08 lookbook. The silk is lightweight and has a jacquard print. I'd have certainly got it had it fit--it was one of my original favorites from that season. Pilar is a light ivory rather than white, and a soft one that works with most skin tones. It is a fairly warm dress, I'd imagine and would work in spring/fall. It runs small--I couldn't get into the 10. The top is fitted, the skirt A-line. Bebel is linen and also quite heavy with brown wooden beads.

I know she had Laetitia in 8--not sure about other sizes. I only asked about the big sizes.

I loved Lille too--I wish I'd gotten it. I think it may have sold out.

Great finds at VOD, Susie! I love Allegra and it runs small--the 10 was tight on my arms. Hera fitted me perfectly in an 8. Allegra is so beautiful and that's a steal--you should get it. Did you get the dove or rose Yves? It is a great dress and it runs a little large. I love the Kaiya too--that is amazing.

We should ask Mary to let us know about future sales--for Mayle and everything else. She was really nice and I'm sure she'd do it.

Good luck everybody--I hope you get great stuff. Christina--you are amazing at finding these sales. I think this is the way to go, rather than the online retailers who keep prices high, but it takes some digging to find these small boutiques who carry Mayle.

Susie, thanks for the info on Bebel too. I think I remember it being big on top. I hope it fits on the bottom too.

Christina said...

Susie, I should be receiving my Yves in a size 2 tomorrow. I have tried the 0 and fits me well so if the 2 is too big, we could trade. I'll let you know. Also, thanks for letting me have first dibs. I saw Kayia at VOD and it's a great top, esp at that price. When I was in there last, it was 195! I hope the color works well on your skin tone.
Sorry for all the posts as well. We all should find a chat room somewhere and leave it open all day.

Moya said...

Please don't apologize for all the posts! I think it is great and we can effectively use this as a chat room while these amazing sales are going on.

pine said...

Thanks, Moya, your knowledge on Mayle is quite remarkable. This is all quite exciting!

Do you remember if Ana Claudia runs true to size? I am 8 in dresses mostly (although I just bought Yves in 6, which I haven't even received or tried it on yet, so it's all abstract, this internet shopping...)anyway, Ana Cluadia dress looks rather baggy in the photo. (Sorry. I feel like a broken radio with the sizing questions...)

How about Ana Luisa; you have a 10? Would you have fit into an 8? Since it sounds like they only have a 6, I wonder if I could do with a 6. I would definitely get that altered into a skirt but one can't really alter something small to bigger.

Is your laetitia an 8, and it runs regularly?

Do you remember if they had more Rocio?

Glancing through the past Mayle lookbooks, it's interesting, Mayle doesn't really date, which must be why we are all such fans...and I do agree, this is a bit like a chatroom, quite fun.

Abby said...

Wow! I am amazed at all of the action that is going on here!

Moya, your knowledge on sizing is absolutely amazing.

The one Mayle piece that I really regret not purchasing is the black and white Vilna top from Resort 07. I tried the floral print on at Barneys but for some reason never bothered to track down the version I liked. I'm excited that you guys have unearthed a Laetitia - it gives me a glimmer of hope.

Moya (or anyone else), any idea on if Vilna runs true to size? I have a size 2 Mariko top and a size 6 Veva dress (that could use a bit of tailoring).

I'm going to keep scouring ebay and/or keep my fingers crossed that Jane does a 'best of' final collection. . .

Abby said...

Also, have you guys heard of Jeffrey Monteiro? He's a former Mayle Design Director who struck out on his own.

Maybe there's some Post-Mayle hope for interesting design?

Christina said...

fyi-there is a shopbop coupon code good until thurs for 20% off your order XOXOSB...you can order Agnes in black for 333.20 and if you go through luckybreaks.com save an additional 7% on top of that!

If they still had Romy in black, I'd be all over this promo but it sold out last month at reg price! I hope the Deauville belt will go on sale.

Christina said...

Abby, LFT at Victory Park had some Monteiro pieces before they closed up last month. They marked everything high so even after the 75-85% off, tops and dresses were still well over $100 and everything was picked over. The former mgr, Kathryn, used to take clothes that didn't sell there and sell them through her independent store (salegirldallas.com). I was able to score a vena cava lace top for 30 and this gorgeous blue jovovich hawk dress for 50 that sold out immediately online and in barneys. I don't know what LFT did with their leftover inventory. They probably donated everything and wrote it off.

Jeanette said...

Moya,

Do you know whether they ship overseas? I would love to get the Bebel and the Anna Luisa romper, is the romper in black or cream?

Thanks,

Moya said...

Kim--Anna Claudia runs small. The shoulders/back are tight--I could barely get into the 10. While it drapes, it is fitted at the very top. I love it--it has beautiful embroidery on the shoulders but I couldn't get into it. I really hope I don't have the same problem with Rocio. Mayle's sizing varies quite a bit, however. The 6 may work for you as you don't have a broad back and shoulders. It drapes beautifully.

I have a 10 in Ana Luisa mainly because I'm tall. The crotch of the dress matters when it's a romper so I needed the length for comfort. Otherwise I'd say it runs true to size. It's certainly roomy on top and on my waist.

My Laetitia is a 10 and I think it runs a tiny bit small--again, its the issue of I need the fabric in the back and Jane Mayle put it in the front. You should be fine with an 8.

I don't know if they have any more Rocio. They do have the Viva pants in black in size 8. I already have them (they run a little small but they are really flattering).

Abby--resort 07 seems to still be around quite a lot (Bebel, the Leda I got in London, Laetitia). I imagine you'll find Vilna. I think we need to look for more stores like Coplons and VanJean that are in smaller cities and don't do ecommerce as they seem to offer bargains and keep the older items in stock. Christina mentioned that Sebastian's in Dallas still have some resort 07. Resort 06 was a collection I loved--I wish I had been persistent and waited for it to go on sale (back then, I didn't realize that resort/holiday got reduced and just avoided Mayle temptation in early spring). It really doesn't date that much, Kim. I wish I had some of the older lookbooks to lust over.

I got my Coplons package today and I am wearing Kiyoko now. It is the most comfortable dress and I'm very happy with both purchases. Alas, it means I likely can't afford to get Agnes and may miss out on it to other Mayle bag lovers. I guess I'm holding out for more amazing bargains.

Moya said...

I think they do, Jeanette. I'd ask in any event. I don't know what color the romper is--I imagine cream given that they are in the South (I assume they'd go for the lighter colors with their weather).

pine said...

I love it! You really know your Mayle. It's really bad to go through the past lookbook, though, I keep seeing dresses I should've bought, like Basia, Adela, Evelia...

I am a bit afraid that both Ana Cluadia and Ana Luisa are serious gamble in sizing...and I am not an Ebay girl...maybe Ana Claudia, but then the top is fitted and might be tight...again, back to the sizing dilemma with the clothing items I've never seen before. It's a bit funny.

What is a Quartina jacket? Is it like Talisa jacket from that season, although from the name it sounds like it's cropped (not into cropped jackets). Is it silk or cotton? Since you've seen it, though, I trust your instinct when you say it's not useful for NYC.

I am so glad that you love your kiyoko! I think Agnes might be reduced more, especially right at the end. Besides there is a whole new collection coming up, with possibly more bags!

Christina said...

Metier's sale items have been marked to 70%

I will go to sebastians this weekend and report back. They had quite a bit of resort left so hopefully more markdowns have been made since the new year. I know we can find better bargains on Mayle but it will take some work.

Kim, have you been checking ebay recently? There is quite a bit of mayle on there right now.

Has anyone ever called their press line at 212.941.7210 to ask about stockists? I would call but it's long distance during the week and I'm cheap plus I have already emailed twice with no response and asked Elise last time I ordered from her.

pine said...

So I just called the store, but they were just too busy to tell me anything. The only Mayle they still had was Ana Luisa size 6. They didn't think they had Laetitia or Rocio in size 8 anymore...I am hoping that they are just not finding it for the moment since they sounded very busy. They told me that they will call me if the items turn up, but I couldn't leave my phone number with them since I am abroad... If anyone calls the store today, will you ask about Laetitia and Rocio size 8 and tell them to put them on hold for Kim? Thanks.

pine said...

Oh I didn't get the Ana Luisa, so for anyone interested, it's still there!

Moya said...

Sorry about that, Kim. They were swamped every time I called--I had to stress that I'd tried several times before they called me back. I hope you can get something--and I hope everybody else does too.

Christina said...

i bet vanjean's phones must have been ringing off the hook this morning!

i think quartina is a cotton jacket. i have seen it on ebay a few times. it has very little embellishment, just a few pleats down the front. of course, it could be one of those many pieces that doesn't photograph too well.

my research yesterday turned up nothing. . . i emailed sotto boutique and they don't carry mayle anymore. i tried calling a store in miami called chroma but i think it has closed? there is another number for the store i found that i will try today.

pine said...

It's so annoying. Rocio's lovely too, but I fell in love with the laetitia while looking through the lookbook yesterday and felt certain I had it too... Well, if anyone gets through, please put laetitia/Rocio 8 on hold, I would really appreciate it. It's hard to keep calling from abroad. They did ask if I knew a lady named Moya, btw, which I thought was a charming way of putting it.

Christina said...

I just called and the woman there said that after she spoke with Moya yesterday, they had tons of calls and sold most of what they had on sale, mostly the dresses and tops. Silent readers of this blog must have all called and ordered. She said they are having a sidewalk sale and a part-time employee is pulling their remaining mayle and taking photos. Oscalita and Bebel are gone. You snooze, you loose!

pine said...

Christina, I didn't even think about silent readers...Probably a bit naive about the internet, but I don't ever frequent blogs, except here because my Mayle question led me here. That kinda makes me feel suddenly a bit strange...

Christina said...

forgot to mention....she said they only had two dresses left, a few pants and some shorts...she couldn't tell me styles...
I'm so mad at myself because I had known about them last year and probably could have scored some amazing pieces earlier on-oh well, I'll live but still...
Susie, according to their blog, the girls at sotto are huge fans of mayle so they might know of some local shops that carry her clothes. They sell some cute devotte sandals!

We just need to just get that stockist list from mayle because I'm tired of looking!

Christina said...

called the press line at Mayle for stockists and it's voice mail but you can leave a message for Jane.

Unknown said...

I just found this blog through a mayle search - what a great resource! Moya, we met at the Mayle store the first day of the resort sale a few weeks ago (we were trying things on at the same time and you gave me your info before you left). Hope you are well. Does anyone know what stockists carry the Astrid dress? The Mayle store no longer has it and I'm trying to find it on sale. Also, how does Penilope fit? I never tried it on because it never jumped out to me on the hanger but it seems like an easy dress to wear year round. Thanks! Maryam

Moya said...

Hi everybody,

I'm so sorry that you all missed out because of me. I feel terrible. Like you, I assumed it was just a few of us reading this. I should have just asked Mary to put all the Mayle on hold for us and given names with sizes. I feel terrible about this.

Maryam! It is good to hear from you. LaGarconne has Astrid but not on sale. Penilope fits true to size--it's really soft and will definitely be a great spring/summer piece. It's certainly worth the $159 that Bird was charging.

Biscuit said...

moya- don't worry!! you have absolutely nothing to feel bad about. i really doubt mary would have put everything on hold.

they just called me and told me what they had left.

KIM! i put the laetitia blouse in size 8 on hold for you, so please call asap. she really didn't want to put it on hold, but i told her i knew you wanted it.

they also have ana luisa in cream, vita pant, ilda pants, munoz shorts, rosamelia (all in size 6 or 8), and pilar cream in size 2 and 4. that is it! sounds like it got crazy picked over yesterday.

Unknown said...

I just got a call from VanJean. They had quite a few styles left from Spring 2008, but the prices were only 50% off. The dress I wanted was over $250. I guess they must have raised the prices after getting a ton of calls?

patrickstar said...

Hi there!
This blog has been great...I stumbled across it during a Mayle search.
I also just got off with VJ and they clarified that the prices are actually 50% on the items they have left...just FYI.

Alice

Biscuit said...

that's weird. i didn't bother asking about prices since i didn't want any of the items. but did they say they had items other than the ones i listed?

Christina said...

Moya, don't feel bad. Next time I find a sale, I'll exchange emails first so we get first dibs. ;)
I can't believe they changed the prices! That's so wrong! Now I'm guessing they'll be stingy with the markdowns on resort.

Moya said...

That is weird. When I spoke to them on Monday, I was told 50% off, then yesterday they gave these prices, but resort 08 wasn't on sale. Maybe they have now discounted resort?

Moya said...

Yes, we definitely need to exchange emails, Christina (and Susie, Kim, Karen, Maryam, etc.) so we can strategize better.

I only have a brief gap between classes today and given that it is lunchtime, I can't call VanJean as they'll be busy. It seems different people give different answers and prices. Mary did say, however, that people take things into the changing rooms and so it's tough for them to know what's in stock. I'd have gotten the Ildi pants yesterday had I known (and if they were an 8) but I did well here and can't be greedy.

I suspect there are other stores like Coplons and VanJean out there. Maybe that's why Mayle doesn't release lists of stockists as it protects their major retailers pricing? I suspect that there are more Mayle retailers than we know. The deadstock that appears on Ebay is also a giveaway. My Vita pants have a label of an LA store. I can't remember which one, but they don't do ecommerce. I just hope the deals at VanJean didn't go to ebay traders but to fans like us.

patrickstar said...

This is what sbe told me they had left when I talked to her:
Ana Luisa (6)
Rosemelia (6)
Vita pant (6 and 8)
Ilda (8)
Ana Claudia (6)

HTH!

pine said...

Susie, thank you so much! That was very kind of you. The shop just told me that the Laetitia shirt is now 200 some dollars. I don't know...I don't like the way they just hiked up the price like that. That's not very cool somehow.

Moya, please don't feel bad...are you kidding? I think it was nice of you and Christine to share your information. But it's strange how I totally assumed it was just a few of us all this time, probably because this blog felt quite fun and safe! So you created a good place.

Biscuit said...

no problem, kim. i had no idea they had hiked up the prices. did you ask about that? what did they say? i agree that it is really disappointing. moya, i hope they are going to honor the prices they quoted you on your purchases yesterday!

agree that this has felt like a nice, intimate group. seems like a lot of people are coming this way by way of google. . . moya, i asked erica to send you my email address (erica, if you are reading, sorry again for imposing on you) since i don't want to post it here.

Unknown said...

I called VJ to see what they had left in 8/10 and they only had Vita and Munoz shorts. However, the prices didn't seem as great as the deals you described earlier. She said 50% off. Does anyone have either of these pieces to shed some light on fit?

I'll keep my fingers crossed that Astrid will go on sale on lagarconne. Also, I was told they are getting more Astrid (recut for a better fit) at the boutique but they'll be at full price.

Christina said...

called to clarify and here's the list...it's only 50% off the original price listed here...they'll have a hard time selling these!

pilar 2, 4 -$714
ana luisa 6 -$498
vita pant 4, 6, 8 - $358
ilda pant 6 -$378
munoz short 4 -$312
ana claudia 6-$535
rosamelia 6 $524

pine said...

Susie, I did ask, and they said that it's just 50 % off, all Mayle items are. They didn't want to explain why it was cheaper yesterday. I'm glad Moya got somethings at great prices yesterday; Christine should have too, since she found the place...Moya, I would exchange emails, but let me think of a clever way of doing it since I don't want to post it here.

lorochills said...

the vita pant is a great pant..for some reason the material is sorta like a lint brush but the pant is a bit roomy for sure..the ana claudia dress is one of my favorites it fits true to size..i love that this dress has pockets..the ana luisa is also great..if they are your size get them a bummer about the sale though..i think it is a it sneaky but i guess this economy promotes this sort of behavior

Hi all - I'm a long-time lurker. I am posting for the first time to to out myself as one of the "evil" silent readers of the blog. I've been reading Moya's blog since she started her blogging endeavor last year and have been silently rooting for her and enjoyed everyone's posts enormously. Please don't censor or cut off your posts/comments; I really look forward to reading Moya's posts (and Erica's!) and I am deeply appreciative of how courageous and honest they are about topics that I haven't yet imagined but are very much an impending part of my life (hello, academia and motherhood). I also (clearly) love the shoptalk (yay for Mayle talk!). Please continue to comment on the blog - it would be such a shame to let a sale ruin the generous female camaraderie!

That price hike is worrisome. I am shocked they'd do this overnight. I hope they honor yesterday's prices in any event.

Susie, I sent you an email. I was worried about putting mine up here because of spam and was going to set up a new blog account.

I found the Vita pant to be like a lint roller as well (not so good when you have a long-haired cat). They are tight on me around the hips but that might be too much Christmas chocolate. They are a very flattering cut.

I imagine Astrid will ultimately go on sale at LaGarconne, but it will take a while, Maryam. They are notoriously slow to discount. I heard Astrid ran very big--it's a shame they are out at Mayle as I wanted to try it on to see what size I'd need.

Does anybody have any idea if the new Mayle collection will be truly new or is it a mix of the old and the new?

Cindy, we won't censor anything! Welcome! I am pleased the pieces went to a real home not an ebay seller. I know not all readers post, but welcome aboard. It's good to have you here.

Moya, the girls at the store didn't know exactly what items they would be getting. They did mention that they're getting things very limited edition. I'd imagine it will be some new pieces and perhaps some old classics.

Also, you'll have a chance to try the Astrid on because the store is getting another shipment. I'm not sure when but sometime in the next few weeks. I tried it on and it does run very big. I would have taken a 6 in it, but I also fit into the 4 (and I'm usually 8/10). It was really spectacular on - a beautiful piece. I wish I had bought it!!!

Also, talking about price hikes, Shopbop has put the price of Agnes back up to $595. I wonder if these retailers realize that people are looking for discounts with the recession/depression we're in.

Thanks for the update, Maryam. I hope very limited means that there will still be a chance of getting the new items on sale. I wonder if the celebrity/rich clientele will pick them all up when they come in store. If nothing else, I'd love to see what she decides to put out.

Has anything else sold out? I wonder what they have in stock--and I don't trust myself to go until the next round of reductions...

Cindy, please don't take offense to my comment. I didn't intend on calling anyone evil or deceptive and I hope it didn't come across that way.

I love to share any tips I have with this community so it's not a big deal. I like a great sale just like any other girl but it's only clothes! I just hope more people will join in on the conversations...

The black Agnes was on sale but not the smoke version and it appears the black has sold out. With that coupon code, it was the cheapest you'd find it currently...Jane Mayle if your reading this, I am waiting for my very own baby billie w/long strap in black or dark brown! lol

I bought the Astrid in a 6 and I am usually an 8 in Mayle. The silhouette is very very loose, but I found that the sleeves were ill-fitting on me if I went any smaller. It is one of my favorite Mayle pieces, but I haven't had the opportunity to wear it yet.

Moya, it sounds like you got an 80-90% discount at VanJean. I wonder how they stay in business if they can't even sell Mayle at those prices?

I think they are missing a good opportunity to unload some old inventory. I certainly won't be buying year-old merchandise at 50% off...and I won't be shopping there in the future either, as the price-raising thing has left a bad taste in my mouth.

I actually went in the back for a few minutes to chat and tried to check out the inventory. It seems like they have most other resort pieces in a couple of sizes, some more than others. They had a bunch of Theadora (which I love) but only in smaller sizes. I think they also have a lot of Jemeen - not sure it's been selling well b/c of the fit. I ended up ordering Jemeen from Totokaelo b/c it went down to $193 and I just thought it was such a great deal. I haven't received it yet, but I think with some tweaking (raising the length and maybe bringing in the arm holes a bit) it will be cute.

Thanks so much for the welcome!

Christina, no offense taken - you are an awesome Mayle sleuth and it sucks that you didn't get to capitalize on a stockist that you hunted down! BTW, I think their announcement mentioned a mega-sale on 2/6-2/7, so perhaps the prices will go back down on those dates? I ended up passing on VJ goods. I'm holding out for further reductions on Resort '08 and the limited collection... Here's to hoping we all get what's on our wish lists!

I think somebody earlier asked about fit for some of the Resort pieces? I've pretty much tried on all of the Resort pieces... I am a dress size 6-8 at Mayle (sometimes 4 for blouses/coats) and I recently picked up Zoia in a 4, Senna in a 2, and Jemeen (ivory paisley) in a 4. I sort of think that Resort was cut too big for the looser-fit items while the form-fitting pieces were cut a tiny bit smaller (hope that makes sense)! Zoia is flattering and comfortable (it has the best sleeves - I am big on sleeves) and is made with that heavy washed silk like Melia. Senna's stretch fabric is a bit disappointing at first, but I think it is very wearable, breathable, and molds to your body (particularly in the shoulders) after the first wear. I've worn it twice and it actually looks better now than it did in the store! I also realized that the wide armhole on the Jemeen is a key aspect of the dress and makes the body (and incidentally, your arms) slimmer; you can't really tell what the dress is like until you try it on. The paisley print is heavenly - I want more!

I can't believe you got to go into the back room Maryam! I could see that they had tons of Ninon back there when we were last in the store. I suspect I won't be able to get a Theodora from them. The sleeves are tight at the cuff and I need a 10. I imagine none are left in that size. I'd hoped to get one to wear to Evan's niece's Bat Mitzvah this June (I need a nice dress with sleeves and they aren't that easy to find).

I like Jemeen but the fit is so strange. I think you can make it work--I was thinking about the Totokaelo one myself. I imagine that Jemeen--and maybe Senna--will be reduced in a final sale. Mind you, I've been wrong on this in the past and bought items on minor markdown that I thought would fly out the door--like Margarita--only to find they lingered. I also coveted Izadora, assumed it wouldn't sell, and then lost it.

Thanks for all the fit information, Cindy. I really want something in that paisley--it is so beautiful. I hope we can all get the pieces we want at the price we want to pay. I agree with you about the fitted pieces in resort--Melia fits me in 8 but the 10 is better, and Jemeen was huge on--I needed the 6, maybe even 4. Given the odd fits, I was also surprised how few 8s and 10s were made in the more form-fitting resort items--like Jacinthe which the store only got in 0-6. Somehow VanJean got an 8 so others have to be out there.

my hubby bought the jemeen for me a couple of weekends ago (in the black/white) at the mayle boutique, and i think it was the last 0. that being said, it may sell out in 2 or 4 if you were thinking about it. it was 30% off when we bought it. i didn't find the fit strange at all, but rather, forgiving. i could have taken the 2 as well, and i normally wear 2-4 in in mayle. haven't worn in yet (due to the freezing cold, but i can't wait!)

also, i tried on the cropped pants (forgot their name), which were adorable in both the black and khaki. these are running true to size.

lastly, to revisit an old topic... sizing on the ludovine.. i just received mine from eluxury in a 4, and i found it a bit big. that being said, the 2 was a very fitted. those of you that have these coat, do you prefer wearing it fitted or a little loose? i guess there's the issue of wearing sweaters underneath, esp. since it's not the thickiest coat. any advice is appreciated! thx!

My Ludovine is 6, and I am 6-8. I definitely prefer wearing it fitted. 8 is big on me. Normally I could do an 8, but not in Ludovine. My sister also bought one in an 8, but wishes she had gotten a 6. For me, I don't imagine wearing a thick sweater under Ludovine. It's a different look from a real winter coat. So you should probably try it on with a sweater underneath and decide if you like wearing it that way, since you know with a 2, that would be an issue.

I have to agree with Kim. I think this is a spring/early fall coat and I am not sure I'd wear a sweater underneath. I haven't actually worn mine out yet, though, as it has been too cold.
