Mayle Sale

So resort and holiday are finally 60% off and I am much poorer. Even though I teach all day today and cannot make it into Mayle, I called and got some of the items on my wish list. While Hera was gone (this was my number one must have, but it was nearly $600 full price) and Theodora had sold in the smaller sizes, I got Melia in black (a good basic with great details that fit me so well), Mirabelle in black because I love Pina and it is a similarly gorgeous and forgiving dress, Helen in Persimmon and Zora in black (maybe my number 2 favorite from Holiday). Stock was going fast so I'm pleased I made the call even though I didn't get to see what was left.

I go in to pick my pieces up tomorrow. Still no package from Van Jean. I suspect I am going to have to transfer funds from my money market account to cover some of this spending. Part of me hopes that the greatest hits Jane Mayle recuts aren't to my taste so I can save some money. I know that's unlikely, but still...

Amazing haul! I'm so envious of your Helen (in persimmon, right?) - it's the only piece from holiday that I nearly purchased full price from La Garconne (and perhaps I should have, especially since it's sold out everywhere).

I went into the shop today and there is a decent amount of stock available (especially for holiday pieces). Only holiday/resort is out on the floor. From what I could gather, the pieces that are sold out (or nearly so) are Jacinthe, Asina, Mirabelle in white, Melia in black, Maurius, Astrid, Zora in colors aside from black, and Helen in persimmon. There is practically nothing left in the paisley print.

While I was in, I asked about the limited last collection. One of the SAs told me that it really will be very, very limited - 1 size only per piece, no pre-orders, and no lookbook. You will literally need to go into the shop to see these pieces. Also, there may or may not be accessories - if there are, I heard that the top choices are Billie bags and clogs.

I didn't end up getting anything that was out on the floor. I feel sort of burnt out by this incessant Mayle shopping...

Sorry, I should point out that the SA didn't have confirmation about everything she dished about with regard to the last collection. It could be pure SA speculation at this point...

Wow. That is amazing. So I imagine the final collection will literally be like custom pieces and thus there will be no sales and nobody else will have it. That's really interesting. Thanks so much for finding this out Cindy. Even if it is speculation, it suggests that this will be the last collection that was available at other outlets. Given the lead-time for buyers, that wouldn't be surprising. It is a shame about the lookbook though.

I feel a little burned out too. I just wish the weather would get a little warmer so I could wear more than my Odette and Galina coats and my Aiko sweater.

I can't wait to see my pieces tomorrow. I would have loved Theodora in persimmon but I'm very happy to get Helen.

I love the clogs--I have the monogram clogs and hope they redo these and the Billie bags. I'd really like to get a full sized Billie in a dark color.

completely agree about being burnt out! i think i may have shopped myself out at this sale, so it would actually be better for me if the last collection was unattainable. i am wondering if i should have gotten mirabelle. i like it because it reminds of lily (a dress i missed out on but desperately wanted). but i don't think they had my size.

i can't wait for my mirabelle to arrive, yay! i loved that paisley print, so i'm not surprised it sold out.

that's too bad about the last collection, there's very little chance i'll be able to buy anything since i don't think i can make it into the city until late march.

moya-
my mociun dress arrived, and lo and behold, it's too small! it would have been too small in the waist and shoulders even pre-baby. i'm hoping one of my blog readers will want to buy it from me, otherwise i'll have to try my luck on ebay. sigh. i am seriously annoyed since i could have ordered it in a medium, but they thought a small would work for me.

oh the perils of buying things sight unseen.

Hi Moya,

I've been avidly reading your blog for a little while now and have caught Mayle fever!

What are your thoughts on the fit of the Helen blouse. If I usually take a 6 in Mayle dresses, should I go with a 6? I'm built sort of like a boy: wide shoulders, small bust, small hips, not much of a waist.

Thanks so much for your help!!

Regarding the last line, I think the no lookbook is a good thing (mental pic of Martha Stewart on that). This will allow any of the burned out among us to recharge.

I am looking forward to the last line with trepidation. I know there will be at least one or two pieces I will lust for. Scary thought as I have never paid full retail with Mayle but feel it would be necessary.

Cindy, am I reading it right, one size per item? So, literally just one size through and thats it? Yikes.. Sounds stressful. Thinking the store would be mobbed.

I stopped by the store today on a whim. Figured I had seen all resort/holiday and nothing was calling out.. Right. Bought the jacinthe in paisley (saw one left in 2 on the floor) and the wide belt with the patent lace dealio. But you know what, I LOVE both of them :) I am just truly not buying any more clothes in 2009.

Well.. I am also loving all the great watercolor prints out there for spring. Jill stuart has a "florence" print which is a beauty. It comes in a long, strapless floor length as well as cocktail dresses.

Moya, I am so with you on this weather- so over it! I am tired of my sweaters and pants and want to spring it up!

Also, has anyone noticed the mayle site is down? Unless my bfriend found a way to block it from me-ha.. He loves the stuff I get but marvels a bit at the amount of new clothing comning in..

Joyce, I think Helen runs true to size.

I've been trying to get onto the Mayle site since last night with no luck yet.

Moya and Cindy - thanks for the info about the store and sale. I guess I should call tomorrow morning since there is no way that I can make it into the city for a few weeks.

Erica - I didn't know that you bought Mirabelle?!

I am completely overrun with Mayle fever. Anyone else?

leanne--
yes, moya made me do it (just kidding!).

i had a minor panic attack when i tried to go on the website this morning. i knew i should have saved the images to a pdf ages ago. i tried to make do with la garconne's and eluxury's photographs.

diavolina has a good image of the zenith top in black floral, which i thought about getting ($170). but i guess you have to draw a line somewhere, right?

I think I mis-spoke, I meant to say that the SA told me that they will likely have 1 size range per piece (0-10, only 1 of each) rather than other types of limited sizing. She did say that these pieces will have limited sizing no matter what (i.e., only 2-4-6). The SAs have been aflutter about whether to buy sale or final collection items.

I'm excited to see the new collection, but I think I might be done with my Mayle shopping. I put aside a small amount of money for a much-hoped-for final sample sale, but I have been burning through my savings picking up Mayle (much of which is still tagged and unworn). I made a resolution last week to only buy Mayle pieces that I truly can't live without. I hope I stick with it!

I am so sorry about your Mociun dress, Erica. I would ask them if they can exchange it as that's not quite the same as a return. You'll have to swallow the postage, of course, but it's still easier than dealing with Ebay.

Joyce, welcome! Helen runs true to size, maybe a little small. I usually wear an 8-10 in Mayle and the 10 fit well. I'm like you on the top--wide in the shoulders and back but with a small bust. My problem with Mayle is that sometimes she cuts fairly narrow in the back. I think a 6 would work for you although if they have 8s, you may want to upsize. When I spoke to Elise yesterday at 4, they had several 8s left in the black Helen.

Julie--I love the paisley and the Jacinthe. They didn't make Jacinthe above a 6, or, at least, didn't get it in the store (VanJean had an 8). I'm hoping that they remake it for the sample sale or the final collection. But it seems like those won't go on sale. And I simply cannot pay full price for anything, especially after my recent binge. Any other Mayle I get will be on drastic markdown (sample sales, other stores) or ebay.

Yes, I noticed the Mayle site was down yesterday. At first, you could get the home page and fall 08, but then the whole thing went down. I noticed this happened the first day of the 40% off sale and it was offline for some while. I imagine its so they don't double sell inventory during the first frantic days of discounts. Rather than monitoring stock, it's just easier to pull everything offline.

Leanne--you should try to call today as soon as they open. I know a lot of stock--like Melia in Black--totally sold out yesterday but they still have a good supply of pieces from what Elise told me. Astrid, Asina, Hera and Allegra are sold out, as is Marius. It seems that the internet isn't the best way to get through to stores without a substantial web presence, as I found out with VanJean and Coplons.

Cindy, it's interesting to hear that they are only making 2-4-6, which pretty much rules me out. I don't really understand that rationale as it always seems like the 0 and 8-10 sell first and the 4s seem to be left behind. At least it saves me money--I can look, but not touch. Like you, I'm saving for a sample sale. I think there are even rumors of dresses being remade only for the sample sale and that the price tag will be $175 for a dress. At this point, however, so much hearsay is floating around and Mayle is so secretive (refusal to list stockists) that who knows what will happen? I think there are still enough rich fans that this will be a spectator sport for most of us.

Moya said...

Also, has anybody else noticed that no major fashion blogs mentioned this sale? Given that I got a postcard yesterday and an email the night before, I suspect they wanted to keep quiet until they did their own shopping.

Biscuit said...

I did notice that noone seemed to mention the sale, though someone commented on a racked post about it.

I think I may also be done with Mayle shopping now. I would consider picking up a few things if there were a big sample sale at the end, but I am wondering whether there will even be one.

Julie, I love the belt you got. It is so gorgeous and it can dress up so many things. I think it's a great buy!

And Erica, glad you got Mirabelle! Did you get white or black? Sorry to hear about your mociun dress, hopefully they will let you exchange it since they advised you to get the smaller size.

hi all! looks like almost everyone managed to get some great steals at this sale! thanks to you guys i called in today and got the zoia top and mirabelle dress in size 4... i'm worried they might be a bit large but the mayle girls assured me that they would be alright and could be taken in at worst. i may feel some buyer's remorse and have to put one or both of them up on ebay depending on how much i love them. has anyone tried on zoia? i don't think i'll get them for a while, as the girls tell me it's been too busy to ship out.

i'm with you guys though... no more shopping this year.. all this mayle frenzy has been a bit too much for me, but it's really difficult not buying as this is nearly the end of mayle... boohoo. there is really no one who designs like she does.

erica said...

beklina will exchange my dress for a $20 fee. i'm not sure it covers shipping both ways, likely not, but at least i'll be able to wear the dress. serves me right for going against my gut instinct to size up.

i bought the mirabelle in black since the white would get dirty so quickly.

i would love to go to the shop and see the final collection, but i'm not sure i'll buy anything. granted, i've only bought 3 mayle pieces this fall and winter, but that's about it for my clothing budget.

i'm so glad i don't work at mayle, i would have gone nuts and charged everything to my card!

i'd love to see more real-life shots of mayle being worn, it's so rare for me to see anyone wearing her designs here in new england.

Thanks for the sizing tips, Moya and Julie. I decided to refrain. The store only had Helen in black when I called. I was going to justify the lovely persimmon color as the reason to open up my ever-lighter wallet. Sigh....
